Our Staff

Meet Our Caring Staff

Staff members of "Funeral Homes of Caring"® are thoughtful, trained and experienced professionals who understand each family's needs. Their requests and traditions are honored so the "walk through the valley of the shadow" is an experience of value and adjustment to the loss they have suffered. Understanding and caring for the needs of each who mourns is of utmost importance to the directors and staff of Eldon Jensen Family Funeral Homes of Caring.

From time of initial call, day or night and regardless of distance, we can be of assistance to serve your every need. We are prepared to handle the many details that a family may not be prepared to handle, including service arrangements, securing cemetery property, filing of necessary legal papers, insurance claims, Social Security payments, and prearranged services.

Greg Jensen

Owner/Funeral Director/Pilot

Gregory B. Jensen was born and raised in Lemmon, SD and graduated from Lemmon High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree with a Major in Mortuary Science from the University of Minnesota in 1995.

After graduating from the U of M, Greg worked for Huber Funeral Homes, managing one of their locations in Mound, MN, on Lake Minnetonka, near Minneapolis. In 1996, he came back to the Dakotas to work for Evanson Jensen Funeral Homes. In 1999, Greg went to Montana to fly for Alpine Air Express, Inc., hauling mail at night throughout the mountains in Montana and other Western States. Nine months after the tragic September 11th, 2001 attacks on America, Greg decided to "come home" to the Dakotas in June of 2002 to re-join his family as a Funeral Director, Pilot and Co-Owner of Eldon Jensen Family "Funeral Homes of Caring."®

His lifelong interest in flying airplanes became a reality in college while in South Dakota. He started his pilot training in Spearfish, SD at the Black Hills Airport, "Clyde Ice Field" and became a licensed pilot in 1993. Greg has since logged over 4500 hours; most of them, flying cargo at night, as a Captain for Alpine Air. Greg now enjoys getting the chance to fly the Piper Seneca III, a weather-capable, twin-engine aircraft, for families that we serve, to help expedite and alleviate transporting logistics for the Funeral Homes, when needed.

Volunteer flight missions for the Veteran's Airlift Command, flying wounded Heroes and their families have become a priority when and if the chance arrives and he's called upon to help with the Seneca. While not being a veteran of the Armed Forces himself, but having family members who were and a sense of "Patriotic duty" are driving factors for Greg wanting to give back to those who have answered the call for OUR country and have given and sacrificed so much for our freedoms. (www.veteransairlift.org) If you are interested in what the VAC does and what they're about, please go to their website. When you click on the video on their home page, get a tissue to wipe the tear(s) after you hear from Walt Fricke, the founder. GOD BLESS THE USA!

When time and work allows, he loves hunting Pheasants, with his Yellow Lab's, "Ellie" and "Jaeger", chasing elusive "Timber Ghosts"; Elk in Montana or other states with either archery equipment or a rifle, enjoys playing golf and being on the water at Shadehill Lake in SD, but most of all he loves being able to be with his four beautiful girls, Tonya, Ella Dayne, Laela Marie and Jaeda Kathryn. Greg and his family are members of the Hettinger Lutheran Church.

He is a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Flying Funeral Directors of America, a Committee member of the Cedar Creek Chapter of Pheasants Forever in Hettinger, a Board Member of the Hettinger Golf Association, a Life Member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and a volunteer Pilot for the Veteran's Airlift Command.

He and his wife, Tonya, have been wonderfully blessed with three daughters, Ella Dayne, born on the 4th of July, 2004, Laela Marie, born on May 10th, 2006 and the newest addition, Jaeda Kathryn, born on October 30th, 2009.

Hettinger, North Dakota, is where they call their "home".

On Jan. 1st, 2008 Greg assumed the operations and management of Evanson Jensen Funeral Homes. He purchased the business upon the retirement of his father, Eldon Jensen.

He can be reached at the phone number listed above or at ejfh@ndsupernet.com
