William "Bill" Nagel passed away at Western Horizons Living Center in Hettinger, ND on January 13, 2025.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger, ND on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will also be at Holy Trinity from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025, followed by a rosary service beginning at 7 p.m.

William James Nagel, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025 in Hettinger, N.D.

William (Bill) was born on June 12, 1937 at home in Clermont Township of Adams Co. to George and Margaret (Greff) Nagel. He had five siblings, Joseph, Rose Marie, Walter, Shirley, and LeRoy.

Bill attended a one room school in Kansas City Township until it closed, at which time the students went to Haynes Public School. Then Bill worked on the family farm and did various other jobs.

Bill was then drafted into the army from 1960-1962. He was stationed on Okinawa during this time and also obtained his GED to finish his education.

Bill met his future bride at a dance. He married Esther Hoffman on April 18, 1964 in Lemmon, South Dakota. They made their home on the family farm and later moved to Haynes, North Dakota. Bill worked at Haynes Equity. They were blessed with four children during this time, Chad, Stephanie, Reed, and Nathan.

In 1973, the family moved to Columbia Falls, Montana, where Bill worked at a post yard. Returning to Haynes in 1977, he worked for Knutson Well Drilling, Haynes Equity, and Fisher Sand and Gravel.

Having a love for country life and farming, Bill and Esther moved to a farm NE of Hettinger. He raised cattle for a short time and farmed until 2009. They then moved to Mott, North Dakota for a year and then to Reeder, where they've presently been living.

Bill loved to dance and had a love for country music, always listening to the radio.

Bill is survived by his wife, Esther; children, Chad (Pam) Nagel, Stephanie (Bill) Berg, Reed (Vicki) Nagel, and Nathan Nagel; brothers Joe (Juanita) Nagel, LeRoy (Judy) Nagel; sister, Shirley Warbis; sister-in-law, Beverly Hoffman; 19 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret Nagel; one sister, Rose Marie; brother, Walter; brother-in-law, Ron Vernon; sister-in-law, Lavonne Nagel; father and mother-in-law, Daniel and Mildred Hoffman; sister-in-law, June Hoffman, and three brothers-in-law, Eugene, George, and Keith Hoffman.
