William "Bill" Erhart, age 91, longtime Lemmon area educator, passed away on Monday morning, May 19, 2025 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

Memorial services for Bill will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lemmon.  Pastor Richard Kanzenbach will officiate.

Burial with full military honors will be held 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

William Stanley "Bill" Erhart was born on November 5, 1933 in Mitchell, SD, to Clinton and Henrietta (Tucker) Erhart.  The family moved to Aberdeen, SD, in 1937 where Bill grew up and attended the Aberdeen Public Schools, where he graduated in 1951.  In the fall of 1951 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on Destroyers and Submarines during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1954.

In the fall of 1954 bill married Donna Lou Fritsche; his high school sweetheart.  The same fall he enrolled at Northern State Teachers College where he earned a BS in education, graduating in 1958.

Donna & Bill moved their family to Lemmon, SD, where he taught and coached in the Lemmon School System for 36 years.  He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Nursing Home Board of Directors, Grand River Sport Club, Hugh Glass Archers, National Coaches & Officials Association, American Legion, and a plank owner in the US Navy Memorial in Washington, DC.  Bill loved to hunt and fish and dabbled in many other hobbies.  He and Donna loved to travel.

Bill passed away on Monday morning, May 19, 2025 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

Bill is survived by his wife of 71 years, Donna; five children, David (Teresa) of Centreville, MD, Charles of Crawfordsville, IN, Jill (Doug) of Lemmon, SD, Paul (Nancy) of Albuquerque, NM and Laura (Derek) of Portland, OR; one sister, Virginia of Brownsburg, IN; eight grandchildren, Scott (Melissa) Olson, Rapid City, SD, Aaron (Sarah) Olson, Lemmon, SD, Amber (Jay) Ong, Fairfax, VA, Chelsea Erhart, Salt Lake City, UT, Cody (Fumie) Erhart, Maplewood, NJ, Jennifer Goldsmith (Chris) Lemmon, and Alice Welch and Max Welch, Portland, OR; 10 great-grandchildren, Aiden and Riley Goldsmith, Payton, Tori and Hunter Olson, Palmer and Oren Ong, Kaia and Sora Erhart, and Aurora Olson.

Honorary Urnbearers will be all of Bill's former Track & Cross Country Athletes.
