Walter Rennich, age 98, of Lemmon, SD, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022 at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD.

Funeral services for Walter will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022 at the New Hope Worship Center in Lemmon, SD, with Pastor Ed Zimmerman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022 at the church.

Walter Gottlieb Rennich was born to Gottlieb and Magdalena (Schafer) Rennich on March 24, 1924, in Elgin, ND.  Growing up he lived on a farm, helping his family and enjoyed his horse named Black Beauty.  He also woked for Otto Scheffelmaier for a time.

Walter was united in marriage to Berniece Pastian on February 8, 1950 in Bison, SD.  They continued to live in Lemmon, SD, where he worked at Standard Station for Clifford Burdick for two years; Dakota Motors for Norm Fogel for 11 years and Lemmon Equity for Chuck and Elmo Cain for 23 years.

Some of Walter's hobbies were cleaning copper wire, fishing, camping, reading westerns and collecting petrified rocks.  He entered the Five Counties Nursing Home on October 2010.

Grateful for sharing his life are his sons, Ron (Barb) Rennich, Norman (Darlene) Rennich and Jerry (Mary) Rennich; his daughter, Dorothy (David) Bartholomew; grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gottlieb and Magdalena Rennich; his wife, Berniece; brother, Henry (Freda) Rennich; sisters, Ida (Jake) Koepplin; Martha (Ernest) Tietz; and grandson, Ronald Ray Rennich.
