VIVIAN ROSE MARIE BAUMEISTER, and her twin brother, Victor were born on July 16, 1924, at their grandmother, Katherine Nehl's home, to George and Clara (Nehl) Baumeister. Vivian had four brothers, Victor, Willard, and twins Robert and Gilbert, and two sisters, Alice and Betty.

Vivian's parents lived south of Watauga on Dirt Lodge Creek so Vivian spent a lot of time at her grandma Nehl's home. Vivian attended Lincoln Country School and high school in Sturgis. She moved to Camas, WA and worked in a paper mill, a pediatric clinic and then worked at a hospital in Rochester, MN. She then worked at Badger Meter in Milwaukee, WI making parts for the B29 Bomber during World War II.

On December 26, 1945, she was united in marriage to William Gannon in Watauga, SD. They farmed and ranched south and west of Watauga and later established their home on a place southwest of McIntosh. In addition to raising twelve children, she worked alongside her husband in their farming operation.

On September 9, 1991, her husband Bill passed away. Vivian continued operating the place until 1997, when she moved to Lemmon. When her health began to fail, she moved into the nursing home in Lemmon and then she resided at the Country House Memory Loss Facility in Dickinson. In September of 2013, she moved to the Golden Living Center in Redfield. Surrounded by her family, Vivian passed there on Friday morning, September 12, 2014.

While living in McIntosh, she volunteered at the school and did babysitting for neighbor children. She was active in St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church, taught CCD Classes for many years, and helped with the TEC Program. She enjoyed horseback riding and quilting. After moving to Lemmon, she attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and volunteered at the nursing home and the Thrift Shop.
