Graveside services for Virgil Otterberg, age 74, of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon.  Pastor Florence Hoff will officiate with military honors being afforded by the Brattvet-Green American Legion Post #66 of Lemmon.  Following the service, a time of fellowship and luncheon will be held at the American Legion in Lemmon.

Virgil Ellis Otterberg was born on April 21, 1946, to Ellis and Pertell (Smith) Otterberg.  He grew up in Lemmon and attended Lemmon High School    graduating in 1964.  Following his schooling he began working for the Fullteron Lumber Company in Lemmon.  Virgil joined the South Dakota Army   National Guard serving for 16 years.  On July 3, 1968, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Hathaway and to this union three children were born, Jeff, Nikole and Dustin.

Virgil began a 33 year career with the United States Postal Service in 1974, serving as a mail carrier.  He retired in 2007.  He was an avid sports fan, participating in many sports throughout his younger years, watching sports on TV, but what he really enjoyed most, was cheering on his grandkids in all their activities.

Virgil passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at his home in Lemmon, SD.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his daughter, Nikole (Robbie) Tennant, Lemmon, SD; two sons, Jeff (Debbie) Otterberg, Bismarck, ND, and Dustin (Shani) Otterberg, Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Hope, Ashley, Beth, Riley, Gracie, Tyann, Chance, Kaden, Sydney and Foster; great-grandchildren, Kyra Nelson and Amelia Wilson; one sister, Vicki (Nick) Hoff, Dickinson, ND; one sister-in-law, Kathy Otterberg; three nieces, one nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Ellis and Pertell Otterberg and one brother, Warren
Otterberg.
