Violet Hilda Zimmerman was born on March 6, 1932 at her farm north of New Leipzig, ND to Ted and Hilda (Roth) Zimmerman. She attended country school to the eighth grade. She was a hard worker in the house helping her mother, and outside hauling hay, cleaning barns, and whatever needed to be done. Since she was the oldest of eight, she also worked for other families that needed help. She worked for her single uncles when she met the love of her life Reinhold (Reiny) Schock in the summer of 1951.

Violet and Reiny were united in marriage on September 10, 1952. Violet worked alongside her husband on their farm. They started their family in 1964 when they got baby Mona, and again in 1965 when they got baby Susan. Violet went to work at Jacobson Memorial Hospital and Care Center in 1978.

Violet and Reiny moved their house into Elgin in 1979 and made their home there. Reiny died in January of 1982. Violet continued working at the hospital until 1991.

She enjoyed time with her daughters and their families, her sisters and brothers and their families.   She also enjoyed fishing, reading, playing games, and loved Gospel music. She enjoyed her Bible study ladies and time with them. She was a member of Hope Conservative  Congregational Church in Elgin.

Those keeping her in their fondest memories are her daughters, Mona R. Hands and Susan K. Schock and her six grandchildren, Holly, Brett, Justin, Carly and Elizabeth Hands, and Shanny Kling, one sister, Nelda Kallis, and three brothers, Milton (Sylvia) Zimmerman, Clifford Zimmerman, Wilmer (Sally) Zimmerman and numerous nieces and nephews.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband Reiny, two sisters, Delores Kreis and Eileen Will, one brother, Henry Zimmerman, and two brothers-in-law, Emil Kallis and Ronald Will; and two sisters-in-law, Cecelia Zimmerman and Arlene Zimmerman.
