Viola Elizabeth (Diehl) Schock of Bismarck, ND, went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 17, 2025, at the age of 95. Viola was born on April 17, 1929, to Calvin and Caroline (Hirning) Diehl. She was raised on the family farm west of Carson and attended Carson schools.
She married Roland Schock on November 9, 1947 at Emmaus Congregational Church in Carson. Together they farmed north of Elgin. Through hard work and a strong faith in God, they successfully expanded and built up the family farm while raising four children: Ken, Dale, Dennis, and Linda. Viola worked tirelessly beside her husband on the farm but also her scrumptious cooking and baking were always plentiful and welcomed by her family after a hard day of work.
Viola and Roland had a strong faith in God, together coming to faith in Jesus Christ at Evangelistic meetings at their church. Living out her faith, Viola sang duets with her husband, Roland, she also sang in the church choir and in community choirs. Viola taught Sunday School, was active in Ladies Aid; she was a teacher and helper for VBS and unselfishly gave of her time and talents serving God in the life and ministries of her church. Viola actively served in the Women's Auxiliary of the Germans from Russia. In 1978, they moved to Elgin where she worked at the Elgin Hospital in Physical Therapy and the Nursing Home, retiring in 1998. She moved to Mandan in 2009 and lived there until moving to the Baptist Care Facility in Bismarck until the time of her death.
Viola is survived by her children, Ken (Theresa) Schock of Valley City, ND, Dale (Rynell) Schock of Staples, MN, Dennis (Rose) Schock of Moorhead, MN, and Linda (Tom) Gietzen of Mandan, ND. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and two great great twin granddaughters. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Margie Diehl and Marcella Schock, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who have shared her life.
Viola is preceded in death by her husband, Roland; her parents, Calvin and Caroline Diehl; Roland's parents, Karl and Barbara Schock; two brothers, Ervin and Melvin Diehl; two sisters, Wilma (Diehl) Robidou; an infant baby; 12 brothers-in-law; and 12 sisters-in-law.
For a life well lived, we, her family, give praise to God.
