VERNON W. SPRECHER was born on April 10, 1940, to Herbert and Emma (Baesler) Sprecher. He grew up on the farm northwest of New Leipzig and from a very young age farming was in his blood.

On December 26, 1956, Vernon married Loretta Koepplin from Elgin, the daughter of Ludwig and Marie Koepplin. In 1969, Vernon and Loretta built their house at 319 4th Ave East, where they continued to live.

Over the years, Vernon farmed with his wife, his dad Herbert, his brother Victor and his sons. In 1972, Vernon took over the Sprecher Coal Mine with help from his son, Jerry. They also tried their hands at raising cattle and hogs. In 2004, he and his youngest son, Jan, started Sprecher Farms & Sprecher Trucking. He loved to tell stories of the road. If you gave him a mile marker, he could tell you exactly where you were.

Besides his love for combining, trucking, seeding (in a straight line), telling jokes, listening to old time country and gospel music, eating German food (especially cheese buttons), and watching "Days of Our Lives"; his favorite thing was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren – watching them in sports and playing cards (31, Pitch and Texas Hold'em).

Vernon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Loretta; brother, Victor (Betty) Sprecher, Bismarck ND; sisters, Velma Schramm, Mott, ND; Viann (Larry) Becker, Garden City, KS; his children, Jerry Sprecher (Manda Schaible), Mott, ND; Jeff Sprecher, Fargo, ND; Joleen (Todd) Kautzman, Mott, ND; Jan ( Deb) Sprecher, New Leipzig, ND; his grandchildren, Jasmine (Isaac) Franz, Jaden ( Steph) Sprecher, Austin, Abbey, Ayden, and Adam Kautzman; Amanda (Chris) Kensmoe, Garrett (Alyssa Allen) Sprecher; his great-grandchildren, Kailey, Josiah, Maddison Franz, Little J. and Blaire Sprecher; and Kolton Kensmoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Emma; in-laws, Ludwig and Marie Koepplin; brother, Virgil; and sisters, Vesta Stelter, and Velore.
