A Family Celebration of Venita's life will be on Friday, October 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. MT at the Centennial Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Homes in Hettinger, ND, followed by burial (open to the public) at 1:45 p.m. at the Hettinger Cemetery. Rev. Allen Wickstom will officiate.
Venita Kathleen (Schlosser) Mattis was born on November 2 nd , 1944 in New England, ND to Valentine and Veronica (Emmil) Schlosser. She grew up and attended school in Mott, ND.
On November 10 th , 1963, Venita married Ray Mattis of Hettinger, ND. They settled down in Hettinger where they had two children, Donna and Scott.
Venita was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for years. She was also known as the Avon lady who drove the 1963 split window Corvette. She loved to do ceramics and enjoyed bowling in her free time when she wasn't busy working at Adolf's Gasthaus. Venita was arguably one of the best cooks and always made sure her farm boys were well fed. Not many days went by where they didn't get a hot meal and a cooler delivered to the field.
In her later life she did a lot of traveling in the winters to Bullhead City, AZ with her husband Ray. The two spent a considerable amount of time in their bleacher seats watching their four grandchildren and two great grandchildren at sporting events. When spending time with her grandchildren, she almost always brought out a card game, board game, or the dominos and a bucket of her famous chocolate chip cookies. She really enjoyed hosting get togethers for her family and spending time with her friends drinking coffee and sharing stories.
Venita passed away at Country House Residence in Dickinson, ND on October 14 th , 2020. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be missed dearly by her loved ones.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughter, Donna Laufer, Mott, ND, son Scott (Billie) Mattis, Hettinger, ND, grandchildren, Devan (Chelsea) Laufer, Jennifer (Garret) Swindler, Jaylee Mattis and Jarad Mattis, great grandchildren, William and Ashlynn Swindler and two brothers, Larry Schlosser and Virgil (Carol) Schlosser both of Mott, ND. Venita's family is also extremely grateful for the time shared with her Country House family. The care she received and the welcoming atmosphere they provided during this difficult time was second to none.
Venita was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Mattis, parents, Val and Veronica Schlosser, sisters, Vivian Moe and Vernetta Schlosser, and a son-in-law, Terry Laufer.
