Valentine Greff, age 89 of Regent, ND passed away early Monday morning, May 29, 2017 at the Mott Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Regent. Fr. Charles Zins will officiate with burial to follow at the Regent Cemetery.

Visitation will start at 6pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, followed by a Rosary and Wake Service at 7pm, both at St. Henry's in Regent.

VALENTINE "VAL" GREFF was born to Joseph and Beata (Jahner) Greff on May 19, 1928. He grew up on the family farm north of Regent along with 18 brothers and sisters. Val developed a great respect for the land and took great pride in his German heritage.

Val was drafted into the Army and was honorably discharged. In 1951 he met Marlene Moe of Mott, and they were united in marriage on October 7, 1952.

In 1956 a move was made to Regent where Val worked for Kirschmann Manufacturing Company. Another move that same year took them to Dickinson where Val and Marlene bought a trailer house. In 1958 the company moved to Bismarck. This time Val and Marlene moved back to Regent and bought brother Mike Greff's farm where they lived until 1991. At that time they moved into Regent.

Val and Marlene had four children Belinda, Lonny, Gregory, and Jeffrey.

His hobbies included fishing, golfing, cards, and casinos. Traveling to visit family and to sight see made wonderful memories for the entire family.

In September of 2016, Val moved into the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mott. Although Val greatly missed Marlene and his home, he embraced life at Good Sams. In his short stay he touched many hearts. The staff treated him like family, and for that we are forever grateful.

Val always looked for the good in everyone. He was honest, hard working, kindhearted, and would do anything for his family. His sense of humor would always
bring a smile to our faces. His skill at Pictionary was legendary.

Humble to the end, he joined his son Lonny on May 29, 2017.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife Marlene; sons Greg Greff, Grand Forks, ND; Jeff (Dee) Greff, Regent, ND; daughter Belinda (Robert) Thomas, Dickinson, ND; brothers Joseph (Anne) Greff, Cheney, WA; Albert (Lee) Greff, Rapid City, SD; sisters Rose Caliento, Canajoharie, NY; Pauline (Ed) Galles, Rapid City, SD; 4 grandchildren: Michael Thomas, Kelly Thomas, Alex (Bethany) Greff, Zachary Greff; 3 great grandchildren: Devin Greff, Kennedie Greff, Aubree Greff; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Val was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Beata (Jahner) Greff, son Lonny, 5 brothers: Mike, Vince, Sam, Frank, and Casper, 8 sisters: Margaret, Tillie, Sally, Ida, Ann, Beata, Kay, and Cecilia, and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
