Vadne Broadbent Memorial Folder

Vadne (Mitchell) Broadbent passed away at her home west of Lemmon on July 10th, surrounded by her family.

Memorial services for Vadne will be held on July 26, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, SD, officiated by Charlotte Kvale.

Vadne was born December 28, 1942 in Lemmon SD to Dena (Erker) and Lyol Mitchell. She grew up in the Lemmon area on the family farm, attending Trail School. After graduating form Lemmon High School, she continued her education at Presentation College in Aberdeen SD. In 1963 she graduated with her degree as a registered nurse. During her time in Aberdeen, she met her future husband John Broadbent of Westport SD. After their marriage in 1963, they made their home in Aberdeen. She worked as a nurse at St. Lukes Hospital. In 1964 they welcomed the arrival of their first daughter Denise. Their second daughter Dawn (Kelly), arrived in 1965. In 1966 the family moved to Manteca California. Vadne worked as a nurse at Manteca Hospital. Their son Mitchell arrived in 1967.

In 1975, the family moved to Minot ND. Vadne worked as a nurse at Trinity Medical Center, until John retired in 1996. They then moved to the Lemmon area. She worked for several years at the Five Counties Hospital until she too retired.

She spent her retirement enjoying her favorite activities of gardening, fishing and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dena and Lyol Mitchell, her brothers Lyol Dee and Noel Mitchell, her son Mitchell Broadbent, and her husband John Broadbent.

Vadne is survived by her brother Leal Mitchell; sister Rena Hermann; daughters Denise Broadbent, Rapid City and Dawn (Christopher) Kelly, Dyer TN; grandchildren Dena (Patrick Godwin) Graves, Lakewood CO and Jonathon Kelly, Rutherford TN; and great grandchildren Brookelynn Kelly, Rutherford TN; Isabella Godwin, Patrick Godwin, and Amelia Godwin, Lakewood CO.
