THEODORE HAROLD "Ted" KOENIG was born on June 25, 1922 on the family farm south of Carson, ND to Karl and Christine (Kuntz) Koenig. He grew up on the farm and attended rural school. Ted went to Carson High School and then graduated from Leith High School in 1940. His first job was carrying the mail. Ted enjoyed sports and played 2nd base on several baseball teams.

Ted was united in marriage to Tecla Deichert at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church on June 7, 1949 and they began their life together on the family farm. To this union, seven children were born.

Ted loved music and played the trumpet for over 25 years in several bands and also played for weddings. Along with the work of farming and ranching, he also sold Pioneer corn, was a county commissioner from 1980 to 1988, he was involved in building the new courthouse in Carson, served as Mayor of Carson for one term, served on the School Board, the Schulz Township Board and on the church board for St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Ted enjoyed politics, but more importantly he enjoyed his family and the time they could all spend together at family gatherings.

Ted and Tecla decided to "semi-retire" in 1981 and moved into Carson. He still went out to the farm to help where needed. Ted enjoyed his life and his hobbies of woodworking, music, traveling, fishing, playing cards, camping and taking care of his yard in Carson.

In January of 2009, Ted began residing at the Marian Manor Nursing Home in Glen Ullin, ND, where he passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009.
