TANNER MICHAEL STRAND was born on September 9, 1987 in Hettinger, ND, the youngest son of Trevor and Carrie (Evenson) Strand. He was baptized and confirmed in the Hettinger Lutheran Church. Tanner grew up near Hettinger and graduated from Hettinger High School in 2006.

He grew up loving sports and excelled at basketball. Growing up on the ranch and farm, his love for ranching and farming began at an early age. When not in school or sports, Tanner was at his dad's and grandpa Billy's side at Evenson Angus. He was active in 4-H he won numerous awards for his steers, sheep and showmanship skills. This love continued as he spent his summers working with his dad and grandpa on the farm and ranch. Because of this interest in cattle he received his A/I certification. His dream was to become more involved with the family farm.

Throughout Tanner's school years he played Football and Basketball. During his senior year, he was named to the All District Basketball Team and the All Tournament Team for the Hettinger Holiday Tournament.

Tanner was an avid hunter. Whether it was with his bow, rifle or shotgun, autumn was spent wandering the prairies for the perfect buck or rooster pheasant. Tanner would hunt with anyone who would go along. He especially loved hunting with family and friends. His favorite hunting buddies were his brother Tyler and his buddy, Lucas Doerr.

As a kid, Tanner, Lucas and Luke Boxrud would spend countless hours fishing at Mirror Lake. All they needed was a bag of sunflower seed, a Mountain Dew and their fishing poles. Tanner was a kind-hearted, quiet, easy-going and caring young man. He loved his pets, especially his dog Max.

Tanner loved spending time with his friends, who often teased him about his "chick magnet" mole, above his lip. When not with his buddies he was usually busy texting with them. Tanner will be remembered for his unique laugh and his shy smirk, which will be forever missed by everyone who knew him. We will all miss you dearly, Tanner.

Tanner tragically died on October 15, 2008 due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle rollover accident near Hettinger.

Tanner and all of the memories will be held nearest to the hearts of his parents, Trevor and Carrie Strand, his brother, Tyler Strand and his sister, Ashley Strand and their dog, Max; his grandparents, Myrtle Strand and Bill and Eleanora Evenson and his special friend, Ali Honeyman. Tanner's numerous cousins, aunts and uncles and all of his buddies will also miss him dearly.

A memorial will be established by his family.
