Sylvia Friesz, 80, passed away Friday, November 29, 2024, at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND.

Sylvia's funeral service will take place at 10AM on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Hope Congregational Church in Elgin, ND, followed immediately by her burial and graveside service at Odessa Cemetery west of New Leipzig, ND. After the burial, all are invited back to Hope Congregational for a luncheon and time of fellowship with the family.

Sylvia Gail Friesz was born in Elgin, ND on April 3, 1944 to Sebastian and Ida (Reimann) Pfutzenreuter. She went to school in Elgin and later received her GED.

She married Vernon Friesz on January 27, 1960 in Elgin. They started their married life at an apartment at a drug store, then in an apartment above Bader Implement, then to a farm north of New Leipzig, into the city of New Leipzig, and finally to the farm. Vernon and Sylvia had two children, DeeAnn (Ross) Evanson and Alba (Pat) Friesz Arel.

Sylvia worked as a waitress at the Curve restaurant and the New Leipzig Cafe, which they owned. Later in her life, she worked as a CNA at the Mott Nursing Home.

Sylvia found true happiness in being a farm wife and immersing herself in the life she and Vernon built together. She loved raising chickens, horses, cats and dogs. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, visiting with friends, and playing Bingo and cards. Her favorite TV show was Gunsmoke, and she loved flowers. Sylvia enjoyed visits from her grandchildren, especially when the girls moved to the farm and they'd run over to the house to see their "Farma."

She is survived by her husband, Vernon; children, DeeAnn (Ross) Evanson and Alba (Pat) Friesz Arel; grandchildren, Zachory Friesz, Derek Evanson, Riley Evanson, and Logan Evanson; great grandchildren, Brooke Friesz, Kinsley Friesz, and August Friesz; brother, Quentin (Rosemary) Pfutzenreuter; and several nieces and nephews.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Sebastian and Ida Pfutzenreuter; in-laws, August and Ruth Friesz; brother, Orris (Donna) Pfutzenreuter; sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Gary Heinle; niece, Sondra Pfutzenreuter Kovarik; and nephew, John Pfutzenreuter.
