Shirley was born December 1, 1918, in Addy, WA, to Leroy and Florence (Coe) Wright. She was the fourth of six children, Ralph, Wayne, Leroy (Lefty), Betty, and Patsy. Shirley grew up in Thompson Falls, MT and graduated from high school there. She married Alvin Bleick on April 7, 1940, in Thompson Falls, MT. They moved to North Dakota in 1941. Shirley told a story of waking up the morning following their late night arrival and telling Alvin, "Don't unpack the bags because we are not staying, there are no trees", but 74 years later she was still here. Shirley and Alvin had three children, A. Leroy (Roy), Karen, and Brian; five grandchildren, Sean, Jason, Dave, Allison, and Brady, and ten great-grandchildren. Alvin passed away July 26, 1988.

Shirley worked at various jobs in the area throughout her life, waitress, store clerk, crop adjuster, and Grant County tax assessor for 25 years. Shirley had a zest for life and was known for her humor and spunk, as well as her positive attitude. This was appreciated lifelong by her family, relatives, many friends and, in later years, by the staffs of Dakota Hill Housing and Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center.

Shirley is survived by her children Roy (Connie), Valleyford, WA; Karen (Chuck), Spokane, WA; and Brian (Vicki), Elgin, ND; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one sister and brother-in-law Betty and Dick Pearson of Seattle, WA, one brother-in-law Jake Klicker of Spokane, WA, and one sister-in-law Alta Christen of Aberdeen, SD, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin, three brothers and one sister.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 11:00am Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin. Fr. Dennis Schaffer will officiate with burial in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Elgin.
