Elgin
Sheldon Pastian, age 64, of Elgin, ND, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Elgin, ND.
Sheldon Lee Pastian was born to Reinhold Pastian and Esther (Reichert) Pastian on July 8 th , 1958 in Elgin, ND. He lived in Elgin with his parent and two sisters Selda and Sheryl until 1965 when they moved to Mott, ND, and where he lived most of his life. Sheldon graduated in 1977 from Mott High School Special Education. After graduation, he continued to live at home with his parents until 2009.
Sheldon had diabetes since age 13 and was cared for by his mother until when on June 29, 2009 a broken leg lead to his permanent stays in local nursing homes, first in Elgin until Feb. 2020, then Mott until the Nursing home closed in June, 2022, then finally Hettinger until his death. Prior to that day in 2009, he exercised frequently to keep his blood sugars under control by riding his bike. He loved riding his bike and in doing so his legs became so strong that he could ride up a hill effortlessly.
Sheldon loved music, mainly classic rock and roll and he'd play his music almost 24/7. He was also eager to share what he was playing in his CD and cassette players to anyone who would listen to him. He would tell about the song, the artist and how long each song played. He had an excellent memory not only with numbers; he also remembered and valued all his family and friends and everyone's birthday and their phone numbers too. He loved to call them up and wish them a Happy Birthday or wish them a Happy Holiday greeting. He loved to share about friends who had come to visit him.
His "favorite sister" was Sheryl as they were very close and played together as children, and his "she's okay" sister was Selda who taught him how to ride his bike and looked out for him as much as she could.
He is survived by sister Selda (Jim) Dyson of Piedmont, SD. Niece Amber (Dyson) Dorsey of Rapid city, SD. Nephew, Scott Dyson of Duluth, MN.
Sister Sheryl (Curt) Jahner of Mott, ND. Nieces Beth (Tylor) Sigman, Brandy Stang, Shelby (Richard) Schaff all of Bismarck, ND, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Reinhold and his mother Esther.
