Funeral services for Scott Bartell, 46, of Lemmon, SD will be Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon. Rev. Ken Miller will officiate and burial will follow at the Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon.


MICHAEL "SCOTT" BARTELL was born July 27, 1961 at the Lemmon Hospital to Clayton "Bud" and Hazel (Hauge) Bartell. Scott grew up on the Bartell place on the north side of the Shadehill Reservoir and so treasured the ranch. He went to the Shadehill Country School through the 5th grade and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1980. He then attended Western Dakota Vo-Tech in Rapid City.


Scott enjoyed rodeos and talking with all the cowboys behind the chutes, he knew many big name cowboys on the circuit. He enjoyed being around the springtime roundups, mainly for the socializing. Scott knew people everywhere and never forgot a name or a face. Scott was a true gentleman of high integrity, always respecting others without a negative word. This trait was one learned from his father, "If you can't say something nice, say nothing at all". Sports were also a passion and he was very knowledgeable about many teams. He had a very special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews and always inquired about how they were doing. Any pet was like a family member to him. If we could all follow his attributes this world would be a better place.


Battling a kidney disease and dialysis for several years, Scott was fortunate to receive a kidney on September 22, 1995. He was thankful for the new life he was given. Throughout his days of sickness, Scott was never heard complaining about chronic aches and pains.


Scott was musically inclined and spent much of his time over the years playing drums in several different bands. He taught himself to play the drums beginning at the age of 6 using all of his Mom's pots and pans. He put numerous dents on the bottom to prove it. He was well-regarded for his talents. Scott enjoyed going to dances, playing pool, being with his buddies and attending family get-togethers was another favorite pastime. He was a collector of toy trucks, semi-tractor and trailers and pickups with trailers.


Scott Bartell passed away at his residence on Wednesday, August 22, 2007. He will be dearly missed by all.


Grateful for having shared his life are his brothers, Kenny (Shari) of Lemmon, Randy of Clearwater KS; Jim of Buffalo WY; John (Barb) of Shadehill; and sister and confidant, Carol (Joel) Deutscher of Lemmon; and 9 nieces, 3 nephews, 2 great- nieces and 4 great-nephews, 5 aunts and 4 uncles.


Preceding Scott in death were his parents, Bud and Hazel.
