Sara Baumeister, age 36, of Colorado, formerly of Lemmon, SD, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the St. Anthony North Hospital in Westminster, CO.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.  A luncheon will follow at the Legion in Lemmon.

Sara Karolene Baumeister was born February 13, 1988, in Bismarck, ND, to Ross and Becky (Geist) Baumeister. She grew up in Lemmon, SD, where she graduated from high school in 2006, making the Dean's list every semester her sophomore through senior years. Sara had a strong work ethic from the start, and at 16, she got her first job. From then on, she was always gainfully employed and consistently and deliberately worked her way up to positions as a responsible leader.

Upon graduating from Lemmon High School, she moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where she worked in a manufacturing facility and completed courses at South Dakota State University to prepare to enter mortuary school.

Sara moved to Denver, Colorado, in 2010 and began to thrive in new and exciting ways. She was accepted into the Mortuary Science Program at Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado, and graduated with honors in 2015. She was an excellent student; she loved attending class, was thought of highly by her classmates and instructors, and received high marks.

While attending mortuary school, Sara quickly worked her way into a leadership position at a manufacturing plant, but that didn't last long, as Sara answered the call to fulfill her destiny of serving grieving families in the funeral service industry. She quickly worked her way into a full-time funeral director role at Olinger Highland Mortuary in Thornton, Colorado, where her co-workers admired her attention to detail, and she was loved by the families she served because of the compassion she showed them. Having received numerous family satisfaction awards, a family Sara served summed her up best by writing, "We had a beautiful service for my grandmother, and it was all thanks to Sara Baumeister. She is absolutely amazing!"

Sara loved dogs, and through the years, she was devoted to several rescues she referred to as her "kids." Her final rescue, Bella, was a great comfort to her throughout her battle with cancer, never wanting to leave her side and always providing comfort.

Sara loved to paint and most recently excelled in trying her hand at still-life painting, enjoying the attention to detail it required. Always a leader, she was ready to lend a helping hand at church; she never hesitated to volunteer for projects as they arose.

Sara deeply loved her life: Denver, the mountains, her beloved Bella, her meaningful work, and so much more. In August of 2023, it came to an abrupt stop when she was diagnosed with a rare Triple Negative Breast Cancer. She fought hard and endured all the treatments that were thrust upon her until July 16, 2024, when she was granted rest and passed away peacefully.

She is survived by her father, Ross Baumeister, Rapid City, SD; mother, Becky (Russ) Nelson, Lemmon, SD; brother, Jesse (Elyse) Crouch,  Dickinson, ND; sister, Randi (Gage) Markve; nieces, Makayla and Cadence Crouch, nephews, Carson Crouch and Dimitri and Kash Markve; grandmother, Frances Nelson, Hettinger, ND; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Howard and Carolyn Geist, Gene and Iona Baumeister and Jake Nelson; and one brother, Cassidy Baumeister.
