Hofland
Apr 17, 1951 — Jul 30, 2026
Hettinger
Sandra Faye Hofland, "Sandi" passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, North Dakota. She was 75 years old.
A Gathering of Family and Friends "Celebration of Life" will start at 4:00 p.m. MT on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at The Granary in Hettinger, ND.
Sandi was born on April 17, 1951, in Hettinger, North Dakota, to Julius and Opal Goplin. She was the third of four children and was raised in Hettinger, where she attended school, cheered for the Hettinger High School cheerleading squad, and graduated with the Class of 1969.
Sandi met Charles Holzer, and the two were married on September 1, 1973. Together they began their life in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where Sandi attended Presentation College and earned her nursing degree. In a fitting testament to her devotion to both family and education, her first son, Charles James "C.J." Holzer, was born on May 9, 1976, the very day she was scheduled to graduate from nursing school. Their second son, Eric Paul Holzer, was born on April 10, 1979.
Following graduation, the family returned to Hettinger, where Sandi began what would become a distinguished nursing career at West River Regional Medical Center. She dedicated herself to caring for others as a registered nurse and later served as a diabetic educator, positively impacting countless patients and families through her compassion, knowledge, and encouragement.
In 1999, Sandi moved to Loveland, Colorado, where she continued her nursing career in Greeley. It was there that she reconnected with Gale Hofland. Together they moved to Rancho Cucamonga, California, where Sandi served as an RN and RN Supervisor, continuing her lifelong commitment to excellence in nursing. Sandi and Gale were married on June 22, 2002, and shared 24 wonderful years together.
After 36 years in healthcare, Sandi retired from nursing in approximately 2012. Thereafter, Sandi and Gale returned home to Hettinger in 2018, where she enjoyed being close to family and lifelong friends.
Sandi will be remembered for her larger-than-life personality, infectious laughter, generous spirit, and kind heart. She had an extraordinary talent for painting and found great joy in expressing her creativity through art. She was also an accomplished softball player, playing second base and outfield for many years in both Hettinger and California, and she loved spending time at the bowling alley and the golf course with family and friends. Whether through her nursing, her artwork, or simply her presence, Sandi had a remarkable way of making people feel cared for and welcomed.
Grateful for having shared her life are her loving husband, Gale Hofland of Hettinger; her sons, Eric Holzer of Hettinger and Charles James "C.J." Holzer and his wife, Jill, and granddaughter Ava of Devils Lake, North Dakota; her sister, Joan Schmaltz of Hettinger; her sister, Carla Ecker and her husband, Dennis, of Hettinger; her brother, Jim Goplin and his wife, Joan, of Fargo, North Dakota; her stepsons, Shawn Hofland and his wife, Heather, of Chandler, Arizona, and Dustin Hofland and his wife, Kristi, of Long Beach, California; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Opal Goplin.
Sandi's compassion, strength, artistic spirit, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
