Samuel James Friesz, age 21 of New Leipzig, ND passed away at his home in New Leipzig on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 after his battle with diabetes and other health issues.

Sam was born on February 20, 1998 at Elgin, ND, the son of Arnold (AJ) Jr. and Diane (Scharnowske) Friesz.

Sam loved being outdoors and hunting with his family and friends.  He loved derbying with his brother, Rob.  It was something the whole family was involved in.  His favorite derby memory was the day he flipped Rob's truck onto its side.  He loved his dogs dearly, Buddy, Squirmy, 8-ball and Lucky.  They will miss him.  Sam had a lot of good friends whom he considered to be "adopted" brothers and sisters.

Sam leaves behind his parents Diane and Arnold Friesz; his 2 brothers, Virgil (Lacy) Smith, Mott, ND; and Robert (Lexi Pruitt) Friesz, Elgin, ND; 2 nephews, Brayden and Hunter Smith, Mott, ND; a very special friend, Michael Scholes, Raleigh, ND; his grandmothers, Lynn (Scharnowske) Lafiner, Ashby, MN; Janice (Martin) Houston, Spearfish, SD; step-grandmother, Kathy Friesz, New Leipzig, ND; aunts and uncles, Mike and Kathy Scharnowske, Ashby, MN; Mark Scharnowske and Diane Skwarok, Regan, ND; Lynn Goyne and George Corazzini, Elgin, ND; many cousins and more family that he held dearly in his heart.

Sam was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Scharnowske, Arnold Friesz Sr., and step-grandpa, Mel Lafiner.

The Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Friesz Farm.
