Funeral services for Sally McParland, 63, of Hettinger, ND will be Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Centennial Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Homes in Hettinger, ND. Rev. Kathleen Dettmann will officiate and burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery south of Reeder, ND. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday before the service, all at the Centennial Chapel.


SALLY MAY OLSON was born on August 16, 1947 in Hettinger, ND to Alvin and Dena (Burchard) Olson. She grew up on the family farm and attended country schools in Perkins County, SD. Sally attended Hettinger High School and later moved to Minneapolis, MN where she worked as a waitress. Sally was married to Raymond McParland and in 1970 a son, Steven was born. Sally raised her son and they moved to Hampton, MN where she continued to work very hard to support her family. She was always known as a reliable and hard worker. Sally never drove and would walk to work and was never late.


In the late 1980's Sally met her special friend, Roger Jensen and they enjoyed each other's companionship. Sally and Roger enjoyed travelling together. After Roger passed away, Sally moved to Hettinger, ND and continued to work as a cook at the Cenex Hot Stuff Pizza and Sandwiches. The joy of her life, Eleanor, her only very special grandchild was born in 2004. Sally's health began to fail and in February of 2011 she entered the Medcenter One Care Center in Mandan, ND where she lost her battle with cancer and passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 at Medcenter One Mandan Care Center in Mandan, ND.


She loved her family very much and enjoyed being with each of them. Sally also enjoyed puzzles, collecting Angels and Dolls.


Sally is survived by her son, Steven (Shannon) McParland and their daughter, Eleanor, of Minneapolis, MN; her two sisters, Mary Lou (Fred) Holzkamm, Reeder, ND and Betty Berg, of Watertown, SD; her two brothers, Ross (Dixie) Olson, Hettinger and Leroy (Donna) Olson, Reeder, ND and several nieces and nephews. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, her special friend, Roger Jensen, her sister, Barbara Olson and her nephew, Tyler Olson.
