Russell Bornong, age 82, of Isabel, SD, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. MT on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Isabel, SD.   A time of sharing memories will be held at 7:00 p.m. MT on Friday, March 22, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church is Isabel.

Russell John Bornong was born to Johanna and Harold Bornong on July 7 ^th , 1936 in Mobridge, South Dakota.  Russell was the first born of six children.

Russell was raised in Firesteel, SD, later attending high school in Timber Lake, SD.  While in high school, Russell was accomplished in track and as a basketball and football player, later playing baseball for Firesteel.  Shortly after high school, Russell married his high school sweetheart, Denaldo Solberg on January 29 ^th , 1957.  Russell and Denaldo expanded their family to include four daughters, Terri Jo (T.J.), Vicki, Susan and Sande. Over the course of their 60 year marriage, Russell and Denaldo lived in Firesteel, Isabel, Timber Lake, Mobridge and Custer, South Dakota.  But Isabel was always considered home.

For most of Russell's life, he owned and operated a trucking business hauling hay for many local farmers and ranchers.  He was a gifted mechanic and at different times of his life, he tried his hand at mining and being a police officer.  In his early years, Russell was an avid hunter and fisherman, raising and training black labs for bird hunting.  As a cowboy, Russell enjoyed horse riding and for a time owned a trail riding business.  In later years, Russell enjoyed spending time with friends around a card table or traveling to an auction to find a treasure or enjoying a round of golf.

Russell will best be known as a man of few words placing honesty and integrity above all else.  He was faithfully loyal to his family taking great pride in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  If a man's wealth is measured by the number of friends he has or the unwavering devotion of a family, then Russell died a rich man.

Russell's journey ended on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.  He is survived by his daughters, T.J.  (Gus) Sharp, Havre, MT, Vicki Fisher, Rapid City, SD and Sande Marso, Isabel, SD; son-in-law, Jeff Ellison, Lemmon SD; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Nick Bornong, Harlowton, MT, Albert Bornong, Harlowton, MT, Art Bornong, Ephrata, WA; one sister, Marijo Bornong, Spearfish, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Denaldo Solberg-Bornong; one daughter, Susie Bornong-Ellison; and one brother, Harold Bornong.
