Rubin Zimmerman was born on October 6, 1918, to Gottlieb and Johanna (Schafer) Zimmerman, at their home 12 miles north of New Leipzig in a sod house with a dirt floor.  He attended country school through the 8 th grade, and graduated from New Leipzig High School.

He married Ida Fredericka Schutz on September 18, 1941, and after several years, they moved to Carson to their new farm and raised five children.  Rubin and Ida remained on the farm until shortly before their passing.  Rubin farmed and raised Hereford cattle, which he was very proud of, and was a charter member of the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.  He loved riding horses, and spent many days searching for arrowheads on his brother Rudy's farm on the Cannonball River. He later took up carpentry, building and remodeling residential and commercial properties, and was well respected for his quality workmanship.

When the climbing of ladders became physically harder for Rubin, he began a career as a crop insurance adjuster, which he enjoyed until the age of 80.  He loved visiting with the farm families, and was respected for his fairness to all.  He often remarked it was the most enjoyable job of his life.  He was able to drive a car until the age of 95, and was blessed to remain on the family farm with his son and wife of 76 years until shortly before his passing.

He is survived by his five children, sons Harold (Sheila) Zimmerman, Edmund (Linda) Zimmerman, Norman (Janice) Zimmerman, Lyle (Susie) Zimmerman; daughter Elsie Klein, nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rubin was preceded in death by his father and mother, Gottlieb and Johanna (Schafer) Zimmerman, brothers, Rudolph, Ted, Emanuel and Herbert, sisters, Johanna Scheerer, Freda Meherer, Sarah Luithle, and infant Martha, and finally his wife of over 76 years, Ida (Schultz) Zimmerman, Oct. 10, 2017, at the age of 102.

Memorial funds will be used to purchase a digital Grand Piano for Hope Congregational Church in remembrance of Ida and Rubin.
