RUBEN RUDOLPH SCHOCK was born on August 7, 1922 on the family homestead near Elgin, ND to Fred and Katherine (Heupel) Schock. He was married to Delia Sprecher on July 6, 1941 at the Stone Church, north of Elgin. Ruben was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent for many years at the Stone Church. He and Delia later joined the Zion Lutheran Church in Elgin, ND. They lived on the family farm, north of Elgin, raising grain and cattle until 1990. Due to health problems, they moved into Elgin. Delia Schock died on May 16, 2002 and Ruben moved into the Dakota Hills in September of 2003. Ruben passed from this life at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin, ND on May 7th, 2006.
Ruben dedicated his life to help raising his 9 children, but the greatest joys from his children were his grandchildren. He loved to have them visit and Ruben did a great job of entertaining them with the farming lifestyle. Music was a big part of his life and he was often found singing or humming while he worked.
He leaves to mourn 9 children; his daughters, LuElla (Howard) Kautz, of Cavalier, ND, Betty (Clyde) Mallory, of Mesa, AZ, Jeanette Emineth, of Aurora, CO, Karen (Dennis) Sabin, of Morristown, SD, JoAnn (Kirby) Schatz, of Elgin, ND and Brenda (Perry) Laub, of Valley City, ND; his sons, Marvin (Dianne) Schock, of Bismarck, ND, Leslie (Peggy) Schock, of Stockton, CA and Eugene (Cathie) Schock, of Palmer, AK; one sister, Olivia (Art) Weikum, of Elgin, ND; 23 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Preceding Ruben in death were his parents, his wife, Delia, five brothers, Fred, John, Leo, Art and August; three sisters, Magdalena, Lydia and Helen.
