Rose Seiler was born May 20, 1929 in Bison, SD to W.J. "Shorty" and Rosa (Staudenraus) O'Rourke.  Mom didn't get to know her birth mother as she had passed away when she was only two months old.  Being the youngest of nine children, she was raised by her Aunt Sara and Uncle Art Nehl and grew up knowing her birth father and siblings.  Rose attended grade school in Watauga, SD and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1948.

Mom met the love of her life, George, while on a train ride home from Aberdeen. On October 15, 1949, they were united in marriage at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Watauga. Following their marriage, they began their life together on their farm southwest of McIntosh. They ranched, farmed, and raised their nine children there. Her house and her yard were her pride and joy and she worked tirelessly and lovingly caring for them and for her family. Mom continued to live on the family farm after George's passing on October 7, 2013 until her health began to fail in the spring of 2016 where her new address became the Five Counties Nursing Home.

In her early years on the farm you would find her butchering chickens, separating milk, and growing and canning vegetables from her garden along with raising and caring for her children.  In addition, she sewed clothing for her daughters and patched countless pairs of jeans for her sons.  How many sheets and towels do you think she pinned to the clothes line and how many walls and windows did she wash?  In her later years, she enjoyed time spent with her family as they traveled home to visit her.

Mom was a devoted lady and always loved family gatherings especially during the holidays.  Family and prayer were extremely important to her. You could always be sure there was a home cooked meal on the table and a cake made from scratch with fresh whipped cream topping.  Her specialty was fried chicken and milk gravy on Sunday afternoons!  Every evening after supper she gathered her children and whomever else was in the house, into the living room to kneel down and pray the rosary.

Mom was very dedicated to her faith and to her church where she was a member her entire life.  She served on the altar's society and taught CCD classes.  She would not miss a Sunday nor a holy day of obligation mass. She loved to read in the evenings after everyone was off to bed, mostly from her religious pamphlet, Leaves . She always asked God and His blessed mother Mary to protect her family. She prayed for and loved each and every one of them.

Mom loved attending the activities of her children and grandchildren. Whether it be a concert or a sporting event, she was there cheering everyone on.  She was known for keeping her own personal stats at basketball games and she was always spot on.

Keeping her in their fondest memories are her four daughters, Janet (Joe) Mollman, McIntosh, SD, Connie (Jeff) Maier, Morristown, SD, Jane Schwagler, Mandan, ND and Kristi (Jim) Lane, Harlowton, MT; four sons, Terry Seiler, Roberts, MT, Tom Seiler, Spencer, SD, Greg (Karen) Seiler, Ely, NV and Jeff (Dawn) Seiler, Aberdeen, SD; daughter-in-law, Shar Seiler, McIntosh, SD; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Cornelius O'Rourke, Belle Fourche, SD.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; son, Rocky Seiler; son-in-law, Darrin Schwagler; five brothers; two sisters; and one special "sister", Zella Lemer.

You see, Mom didn't leave us that Sunday afternoon December 9th, she just changed her address.
