Rose Schmidt was born to Charles & Lillian Enochs Hawn on January 24, 1929, one of 14 children. She was raised in the 30's and as soon as she was able to work outside the farm she got her first job as a waitress at the Butz House where she worked and lived until she got married. She met Philip Schmidt while working there, and after a bit of romance they were married on September 19, 1950. Philip and Rose lived on the homestead where they raised 6 children and farmed until 1977 when they sold the farm and moved into Mott. Philip had a bus route for many years, and finally got Rose to get her driver's license in the 60's when her oldest son Michael got his.
She got a job at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in 1980 and worked there for 23 1/2 years before retiring. She loved visiting with family and friends and playing cards at family events and always had an extra plate for her kids or anyone else that showed up, which everyone enjoyed as she was an excellent cook. She entered St Benedicts Nursing Home in 2008 due to severe health conditions and was transferred to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in April of 2012 where she resided until her death.
She will forever be missed by her 5 children, Michael (June), Mott, Phyl (Ray) Steiner, Mott, Michelle (Delton) Grosz, Hazen, Patrick (Donna), Mott, and Matt (Jeri), Mott.
