Rose (Pastian) Hawn was born May 19, 1934, at her parents homestead 4 miles north of Burt, ND, to Jacob and Mary (Iszler) Pastian. She was raised on the farm in the Burt area working the farm with her family milking cows and feeding the cattle, horses, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and geese. She worked in the fields helping with harvesting and haying. She also helped with household chores for the family. There was always something to do on the farm.
Rose attended a one-room country school with one teacher who taught all grades from grade one to eight. She and her 9 siblings had a 3-mile walk one way to school, as there were no buses. They made their own toys, etc. They did not have much time to play as there was a lot of work to do on the farm. Rose loved her German food such as strudel, dumplings, and doughnuts. Rose attended the Lutheran Church in Burt, ND in her younger years.
Rose married Albert Hawn on January 30, 1953. In 1954, they moved to the Mott area and worked several jobs. They lived on several farms before settling on the farm west of Mott raising cattle and growing wheat and oat crops. Rose and Albert raised 7 children: Alvin, Sandra, Sherwin, Scott, Roseanne, Randy, and Laura. Rose was also very involved as a parishioner in the Assembly of God church for 75 years.
Rose is survived by her children: Alvin (Naomi) Hawn of Bowman, ND; Sandra (Jim) Ingram of Sapulpa, OK; Sherwin Hawn of Mott, ND; Roseanne (Greg) Dachtler of Bismarck, ND; Randy Hawn of Mott, ND; and Laura (Mark) Ormseth of Minneapolis, MN; 11 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; a son, Scott; sisters: Frieda, Alice, and Martha; brothers: Victor, Bill, Reinhold, John, David, and George.
Rose’s family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Mott Health Care Center. The dedicated care, comfort, and compassion extended to our mother brought our family peace throughout her stay.
