Ronald "Ronny" Dauwen of Lemmon, SD passed away on Saturday, March 2 2024 at the age of 76.
Ronny was born on September 10th 1947 to Ray and Mary (Maher) Dauwen. Ronny attended school in Buell, Morristown and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1965. He earned an Associate's Degree in Mechanics Automotive in Denver, CO.
Ronny met Susan (Susie) Asbridge in 1966 in Lemmon, SD. They were married on December 14, 1968 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They lived in Lemmon for a short time while Ronny worked as a parts man at Peterson Implement before moving to the Asbridge Ranch where he worked in partnership with Susie's dad.
In 1969 Bradley James was born and in 1972 Deidra (DeeDee) Anne was born. They remained on the ranch until 1975 when they moved to Carson, ND where Ronny worked at Miller Implement and broke horses. While working at Miller Implement, he established a tack shop where he sold tack and machinery. In 1979 Ronny took the parts manager job at Redmond Implement which brought the family back to Lemmon. A short time later, they went into partnership with Dave and Judy Anderson and purchased Lemmon Propane before becoming sole owners. Brad then helped expand the business by adding plumbing in 1987.
Ronny and Susie semi-retired after selling Lemmon Propane Inc. to Southwest Grain and Brad went out on his own and formed B&C Plumbing. Ronny continued to provide furnace installations and service work in the community and surrounding areas working under his son.
Ronny's love of horses was a constant in his life. He built his dream of owning 30 broodmares and 2 studs to develop strong bloodlines of "ranchy and cowy" but well-mannered colts to be sold at his annual sale for several years. He was very passionate about his horses and instilled this in others. Ronny and Susie organized and started the Lemmon High School Rodeo Club. They were Rodeo Club advisors for many years and went all over to many rodeos with their own kids as well with all the other members on the team. This brought out great joy in Ronny. He was excited to have one of his granddaughters, Marley, take interest in horses and they would spend many hours in the arena working anywhere from the basics of groundwork to preparing her for rodeoing.
He was an avid camper and also (slowly) learned to golf. He knew to not beat Susie in a game of golf or it may have been a short-lived hobby!
Ronny enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandchildren and following them to their activities and sports. He was always supportive of their interests and passions.
Ronny was always there for anyone needing a helping hand on their ranch or farm and was never without his horses (much to Susie's dismay sometimes). He left this world the way he would have wanted to, with his cowboy boots on and his horses by his side.
Carrying on his legacy is his wife Susie, son Brad (Heather) Dauwen, daughter Dee Dee (Brett) Rice, 5 grandchildren Braydon (Devon) Dauwen, Caley (Nick) Colleran, Addy and Marley Wenner and Lindsey (Troy) Widman; great grandchildren, Henry and Ronnie Colleran and Bryson and Rylan Dauwen, and Hunter Widman; sisters Judy (Dave) Anderson, Jane (Rick) Nelson; brothers, Wally Dauwen, Doug Dauwen, Scott Dauwen, and sisters-in-law, Susan Dauwen and Laura Asbridge
Preceded in death by his parents Ray and Mary Dauwen, father and mother in laws Thomas W and Loretta Asbridge; brothers Terry Dauwen and David Dauwen, brother-in-law, Tom Asbridge; sister-in-law, Caroline Dauwen, and great-granddaughter
Hope Widman
