Ronald L.
Bachman
Sep 3, 1934 — Nov 27, 2020
Faith
Funeral services for Ronald Bachman, age 86, of Faith, SD, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Faith, SD. Pastor Connie Eichinger will officiate with burial and Masonic rites at the Faith City Cemetery.
My dad, Ronald Bachman, 86 years young, was the toughest and strongest willed man I have ever known. Those who knew him well also knew that he had a huge heart and a sensitive soul. He lived on his own terms and died the same way. He was diagnosed with Covid-19 on November 19. As we watched his oxygen levels decline and pleaded with him to allow us to call the ambulance, he continued to angrily reply, "Aw, hospitals are for sick people and I'm not sick. I'm not going." After feeding his cat (named Cat) at noon on November 27, he died in his chair looking out the picture window, the way he always wanted to. I do not know how I am going to get along without his steadfast advice in all matters of life. I would give anything to play just one more game of cribbage with him and to hear him say just one more time, "Ronet, do you want to know how to do that the right way?"
Ron was the son of Phillip and Anna Bachman and grew up on their ranch 5 miles south of Faith, which he took over and operated all his life. He loved to go to church, play cribbage, cook, and bake, take care of his lawn and garden, and be a superior steward of his ranch land. He established a vigorous water preservation program on the ranch, expanding dams and regularly sub-soiling pastureland for water and soil retention. He planted groves of trees for natural windbreaks and built others from fallen tree limbs. Even after he started leasing the property to Newton and Debbie Brown, he was still out there every day engaging in multiple improvement projects (and often driving Newton a bit crazy). Everyone who knew him knew that there were two ways to do things: Ron's way or the wrong way!
Ron is survived by me, Ronet Bachman, and my son, John Bachman-Paternoster. He is also survived by one brother, Leonard Bachman and Leonard's wife, Lila. He leaves behind his very special friend, Vonnie Foster, who he loved very much. He will always remain "Uncle Ron" to Mark, John, and Phil Bachman, and Catherine Bach. He was "Grandpa Ron" to 3 other grandchildren in Eagle Butte, Ricky Rae, Nikki, and Galen Eberhardt. And finally, he loved others who he considered family: Rusty and Julie Foster, and their children and grandchildren; and Newton and Debbie Brown and their granddaughter, Brindle Brown, who always helped him with the Sunday offering at church. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois, his parents Phillip and Anna, and his brother, Bernard.
I would cherish any stories you have of my father; they can be sent to me at 20 Longwood Lane, Newark, DE 19711 or emailed to Ronet@udel.edu . Ron's funeral and a celebration of his life will be held just as he wanted it to be but not until the pandemic is under control in the spring.
