A rosary service for Roberta will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon, SD.  Mass of Christian Burial for Roberta will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon.  Fr. Dan Juelfs will officiate with military honors afforded by the Brattvet-Green American Legion Post #66 of Lemmon, SD.

Roberta Jean (Clifft) Mitchell was born on July 1, 1943, in Presidio of Monterey, CA, to James Earl Robert Clifft and Verda Mae (Lambertz).  She grew up in Bridgewater, SD, after her mother married her second husband, Elmer Hofer, with her two brothers, R. James Clifft (Trudy); Russell Hofer (Shirley); and two sisters, Luann McKillop (Daniel); and Vicky (James).

After high school, she attended the School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD where she graduated as a nurse.  She joined the army started her nursing career.  April 26 ^th , 1965 at Ft. Campbell, KY, she married Gary V. Stevens of Lemmon, SD.   They moved back to the Lemmon area, began their family, and worked on farm/ranches in the area until his death.

January 16, 1970, she was married to Noel L Mitchell of Lemmon, SD.  They purchased land a few miles from where Noel grew up and began to raise their family and enjoy the ranch life.  During this time, Roberta also began working at Five Counties Hospital in Lemmon.  Roberta was very passionate about her nursing career, her family and her ranch life.  She enjoyed dancing, reading and teaching others about nursing and caring for others.  She helped train both of her daughters at Five Counties, and also worked as a visiting nurse for Home Health Services.  She spent her life taking care of others and helping those in need, often at her own expense.

Roberta passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at her home outside of Lemmon, with her family by her side.

Surviving family members include her children, Rory (Valene, Will and Jim), Lemmon, SD; Tori (Alix and Dani), Bottineau, ND; Rhonda (Gary, Gustave, Taylor, Theodore), Brownlee, NE; and Justin (Jessica, Jennifer, KaLee, Braydon, Devin) McIntosh, SD; and 5 great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Roberta was preceded in death by her husbands, Gary V. Stevens, Noel L Mitchell, her fathers, Robert Clifft, Elmer Hofer and her mother Verda Hofer.
