Robert "Bob" Stephen Anderson was born on September 17, 1950, in Townsend, Montana, to Leo and Thelma (Stubbs) Anderson. His family moved to Lemmon when Bob was a young boy. He attended school in Lemmon and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1969. While in high school, Bob rode bareback broncs, steer wrestled, and roped. He also continued with his joy of rodeo after school, in amateur rodeos through the western South Dakota area.
In 1970, Bob moved to Newell, SD, where he worked as a laborer for the Newell Irrigation
System. That next year he was united in marriage to Patricia Jensen. Four children were born to that union, Steve in 1971, Tina in 1974, Kim in 1979 and Stacey in 1980. Bob worked at various jobs, including building cement grain silos, for a beer distributor, and the Purina Feed Store.
Bob and his family moved back to Lemmon, SD, in 1976 and he began his career at the US Forest Service office in Lemmon as a Range Technician. He loved his roles on the Grand River National Grasslands including the Noxious Weed Coordinator, working with livestock producers, and his position as Logistics Section Chief on the Northern Rockies National Wildland Fire Type 1 and Type 2 teams. He retired from the Forest Service in 2005, having over 28 years of service.
In 2004, he met Mavis Anderson, and in August of 2004 they were married. Bob's retirement allowed him to drive bus, work for the SDDOT, Hoff's Ready Mix, and work for Mike Ginther. He and Mavis enjoyed their time together golfing, bowling, and attending the activities of their grandchildren.
Bob was an avid sportsman and thoroughly enjoyed his time helping with the 4-H Rodeos and the Boss Cowman Rodeo in Lemmon.
Bob passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at his home in
Lemmon, SD.
