Funeral services for Rick Hoffman, age 62, of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon. Pastor Bob Johnson will officiate with burial to follow at the Greenhill Cemetery.
Rickie Roy ""Rick"" Hoffman was born April 29, 1951 to Milbert F & Pauline C (Sippert) Hoffman in Hettinger, ND. He attended North Lemmon Grade School and graduated from 8th Grade. He earned his GED while serving with the National Guards 211th Engineer Co. He joined the Guards in 1971 and served six years Rick married Sandra Peters on November 7, 1972. To this union two sons were born: Tracy & Trent.
He worked for the City of Lemmon and also for Stugelmeyer Construction. He also worked with the Lesselyoung Brothers in carpentry. But his passion was his music; playing guitar and writing his own songs. He played in several bands as lead player. Rick and his brother Rolly, had three different bands with his sister, Diana joining later on. Rick along with some friends, started a band called ""Ransom"" playing country gospel music.
Rick got his first guitar from his brother Milo, when he was about ten years old, which started his musical quest. There was never a dull moment after that in his parents little four-room home when the kids learned to play and sing together. Never a discouraging word from Mom or Dad to ""Please lay those guitars down for awhile"". Many a jam session was held every time the family got together with Rick, Rolly, Diana and their families.
His talents were endless. He never used a pattern, everything was free-handed on his leatherwork, painting and woodworking. His imagination was his inspiration. His heart was as big as Texas, like the saying goes. His love for stray, unwanted animals was unbounded as it was for someone down and out. He was always willing to lend a hand, a bed or a meal who ever came along.
Rick passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at his home in North Lemmon.
Rick is survived by his two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tracy and Toni Hoffman, Bismarck, ND and Trent Hoffman, Lemmon, SD; three grandsons, Lyric age 10, Jet age 7 and Scout age 3; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Roland and Karol Hofman, Lemmon, SD and Faye Hoffman, Fairview, OK; one sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Don Heinitz, Morristown, SD; seven nieces, Beverly, Donna, Kim, Konnie, Shawn, Angie and Donell; three nephews, Dusty, Rory and Reed; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Written in his own words sums up his life's battles.
""I had my share of life's ups and downs; I'd follow a ways and then turn back around.
I was searching for something I just couldn't find. Then one day, I put my life on the line.
The road will be long with many a bend, Your new home is waiting, when you reach the end.
Finally I'm free, I'm saved at last. My sins are forgiven; It's all in the past.
Many a heartache has been turned around. No more looking back
'Cause I'm HEAVEN BOUND.""
