Funeral services for Richard Werre, age 89, of New Leipzig, will be 11:00am Tuesday, August 9, at the Christus Congregational UCC Church in New Leipzig. Pastor John Amundson will officiate with burial in Sunnyslope Cemetery at Mott.

Special music will be provided by Alma Mueller, organist.

Serving as casketbeaerers are Aaron and Eric Friesz; Chester Dietz, Jim Davenport; Larry Hauch, and Ron Fischer.

RICHARD WERRE was born January 19, 1916 on the family farm north of Burt, ND to Albert and Christina (Hoffman) Werre. He grew up on his parents farm 3 miles north of New Leipzig and attended school in New Leipzig. At a young age, he assumed operation of the family farm. He was united in marriage to Gretta Watson on April 4, 1952 at Wahpeton, ND. Following their marriage, they lived in Elgin for 5 years but continued to farm and ranch on the Werre homestead. In 1957, they purchased the place where they farmed and ranched together for many years. He also enjoyed working with his livestock and raising Hereford cattle. In 2000, they leased the place out but continued to live there. Richard kept busy driving the countryside checking the crops and hayland. In June 2005, due to his failing health, he entered the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin.

He was a member of Christus Congregational UCC Church, a Lifetime Elks member, and enjoyed listening to Big Band music.

Richard passed away early Saturday morning, August 6, at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 17 days.

Surviving are her wife, Gretta; New Leipzig; 1 brother, Almore Werre, Falmouth, MA; 2 sisters, Minnie Zidick, and Esther Olson, both of Minot, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Ed Werre, 2 sisters, Emma Smith and Hertha Werre, and 2 sisters in infancy.
