Raymond "Ray" Nick Greff, age 67, of Mott, ND passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at his home North of Mott. Ray passed while doing what he loved.

Mass of Christian Burial for Ray will be Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St Stephen Catholic Church 21 miles north of Mott, ND: 15 miles south of Richardton, ND.  Fr. Thomas Wordekemper will officiate and burial will follow at St. Placidus Cemetery, rural Hettinger County, ND.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.

Ray was born March 26, 1957, to Simon C. and Mae (Salmina) Greff. He grew up on the family farm/ ranch the youngest of five. He attended Mott Elementary and graduated from Mott Lincoln High School in 1975.

After graduation, Ray went on to Bismarck Junior   College where he studied Auto Mechanics. While at BJC Ray met the love of his life, Lynn Hunkele. Ray completed his degree in Auto Mechanics. Ray and Lynn wed on July 2, 1977, in Bismarck, ND.

Ray and Lynn returned to the family farm/ ranch where they welcomed four children into their lives. Renee, Tina, Andrew and Tyler. Ray enjoyed following his children's      activities throughout high school and college.  Throughout the kids growing up Ray affectionately became known as "Big Guy" by many of the kid's friends and family.

One of Ray's favorite activities besides teasing the grandkids was to talk on the phone with anyone who had the time.  As they welcomed the grandchildren Ray wanted to be one of the first to hold the babies. He loved to visit the    grandchildren and you could easily find them by following the trail of peanut shells or popcorn that seemed to follow them.

Ray was always willing to drop anything and help a neighbor in need. Ray was a member of the fireman's board.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Ray will be remembered because he worked hard but loved harder.

Ray is survived by his wife Lynn of 46 years. His   Children, Renee (Jacob) Jordahl, Tina (Jeremy) Kane, Andrew Greff, and Tyler (Brandy) Greff. Grandkids Brennan, Saylor, and Gage Greff, Sydney and Axel Jordahl, and Ember Kane. His Mother-in-Law, Phyllis Hunkele, Sister-in-law, Joyce Greff. Brother, John (Donna) Greff, Rosie Rubelke, Anna Mae (Lorin) Remmick. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ray is proceeded in death by his parents, Simon C. and Mae (Salmina) Greff. Father-in-Law John Hunkele. Brother Frank Greff, Brother-in-laws Mark Rubelke and Patrick Ryan. Sister-in-laws Benita Wibstad and Barb Dempsey.

In lieu of flowers the family has decided to honor Ray with a memorial to the Mott Fire Brigade. Donations can be sent to Jody Messmer at 512 Brown Avenue, Mott, ND 58646.
