Funeral services for Rachel C. Miller, age 91, of Lemmon, SD will be at 11:00 a.m. MT on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon. Paul Hawkinson and Pastor Charlotte Kvale will officiate. Following a time of fellowship and a luncheon, burial will be held at the Morristown Cemetery.


Special music will be provided by Darrel and Marcia Klitzke, Marcia Beth, and Darcy Lackman.


Serving as casketbearers are Gary Ellison, Doug Ellison, Heather Mathews, Chris Miller, Jon Knapp, Natasha Mathews, Kristy Mathews, Ashley Ellison, Grace Mathews, and Grey Mathews.


Rachel Cathryn Geiger was born northeast of Thunder Hawk, SD on August 10, 1919 to Oswald and Clara (Martin) Geiger. She attended a rural school and high school at Morristown, SD. She worked for area families until her marriage to William P. Miller on November 7, 1939 at Carson, ND. They lived on a farm in Grant County, ND until 1944 when they moved to Morristown, while continuing to farm. During these years Rachel tended a huge garden and spent many enjoyable hours raising her family, gardening, canning, fishing, and pursuing many creative hobbies.


In 1969, Bill and Rachel moved to Denver, CO and in 1982 to Loveland, CO. Bill passed away on May 23, 1984 and Rachel moved to rural Grant County, ND in 1993. She moved to Elgin, ND in 1996 and on August 10, 1997 she and Irvin Stelter were married. In 2008, she took up residence at Five Counties Nursing Home at Lemmon, SD.


Throughout her life, Rachel loved music, cardplaying, crafts, and spending time with her family and many friends.


Rachel passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.


Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Irvin Stelter, Elgin, ND; daughter Lila (Dean) Ellison, rural Thunder Hawk, SD; son Glen (Betsy) Miller, Eagle, CO; one sister, Bernice Rheinsburg, Medford, OR; one brother, Calvin (Neva) Mistelski, rural Morristown, SD; four grandchildren, Gary Ellison, Doug (Mary) Ellison, Heather (Jeff) Mathews and Chris Miller; six great-grandchildren, Jon (McKinzie) Knapp, Natasha Mathews, Kristy Mathews, Ashley Ellison, Grace Mathews, Grey Mathews.


Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; husband William; five brothers; and two sisters.


Visitation will be on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday morning.


A memorial has been established.
