Phyllis was born June 18, 1924 in Roseau County, MN, to John and Teckla (Brunell) Miovac. She attended school in Roseau County, MN. She came to North Dakota at the young age of 17 and worked in and around McIntosh, SD and rural ND. Shortly after moving to ND, she met the love of her life, Merril (Bud) TenBroek. They were married on December 20, 1942 and together had 5 children, Darell, Beverly, Arthur (Skip), Dennis and David. Phyllis was a devoted mother and grandmother as well as a busy rancher's wife, helping in the fields when necessary. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and attending school functions, especially her children and grandchildren's sport activities. After her children had grown, she and Betty Gall started a very successful indoor/outdoor painting business.
Grandma Phyllis was famous for her beautiful smile, laughter and joy of singing. Her grandchildren remember riding in the car with her and belting out songs like "Playmate" and "How Much is that Doggy in the Window". Visits to her house always included delicious meals, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, caramel rolls, lefse and her famous rhubarb sauce. Her grandkids remember many a pancake eating contest around her dinner table. She loved company and surrounding herself with family and friends. After moving to Mobridge, she enjoyed spending time with her many friends and playing cards at the senior center.
Phyllis was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in McIntosh, SD.
Grateful for sharing her life are her three sons, Darell (Bonnie) Ten Broek, Ten Sleep, WY; Arthur (Skip) (Peggy) Ten Broek, Bismarck, ND; David (Molly) Ten Broek, rural McIntosh, SD; one daughter, Beverly (Gary) Tibke, Bismarck, ND; one special friend (Margi Wollman); 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lorraine Otto, Roseau, MN; Marjorie Lofdahl, Hermantown, MN; 1 brother and 2 sisters-in-law, John and Shirley Miovac, Omaha, AR; and Sharon Miovac, Lake Forest, CA; as well as numerous friends and extended family.
