Funeral services for Peter Seidel, age 88 of Shadehill, will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, March 7, at Grace Baptist Church in Bison with Pastor Phil Hahn, officiating. Burial will be in the Gallaway Cemetery at Meadow with full military honors afforded by the Rogers-Smith American Legion Post #255 of Bison.

A family service will be held at 10:00am on Friday morning at Grace Baptist Church in Bison.

Serving as casketbearers are Pete's grandsons, Kevin Larson, Austin Richardson, Steven Seidel, Jonathan Seidel, Ronny Baker, Charles Gardner, Keith Daniels, James Seidel, Mitchel Seidel, Ty Seidel, Greg Jordan, Carey Heib, Kent Story, and Jason Morton.

PETER SEIDEL was born July 2, 1919 at Meadow, SD to Karl and Christina (Lutz) Seidel and lived on a farm northwest of Meadow, SD. He attended Thompson School thru the eighth grade. Pete worked for various farmers and when he visited his aunt in Iowa, he met Flora Harris. They were united in marriage on June 15, 1942 in Baker, Montana.

Pete served his country during World War II in the 495th Armored Division of the US Army as a mechanic and also drove a half-track. He was in Germany when the armistice was signed.

In 1949, Pete and Flora moved to his farm northeast of Bison, SD where they raised a family of 15 children, with one daughter, Jolene who passed away in infancy. They lived on the farm for 50 years and attended the Grace Baptist Church in Bison. Flora passed away in February 1985.

When twin great-grandsons were born in Denver, CO, Pete went to visit and help and eventually stayed in Denver. Each year he visited several of his children for a few weeks. Pete enjoyed attending reunions of his Army Division.

Pete passed away on Monday morning, March 3, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.

Surviving family members include his 8 daughters, Julia (Jerrold) Crockford, Farmington, NM; Leah Jane (Basil) Larson, Mound City, SD; Joyce (Albert) Jonasson, Osage WY; Jocelyn (Roger) Richardson, Pavillion WY; Jessie (Dave) Christy, Tucson, AZ; Jeaneane (Kevin) Henke, Northglenn CO; Jo Renee (Harlan) Begeman, Spearfish SD; Jean (Raymond) Akers, Lodgepole SD; 5 sons, Arthur James (Sally) Seidel, Moville, IA; Jerry (Jenny) Seidel, Madison, SD; Justin (Tami) Seidel, Shadehill, SD; Juell (Renee) Seidel, Denver, CO; Jay Seidel, Gillette, WY; 25 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; 1 daughter-in-law, Vera and her husband Mike Smith, Sundance, WY; and 5 sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Flora on February 5, 1985; 1 daughter, Jolene; 1 son, Jeff; 1 brother, Adam Seidel; and 1 sister, Lenora Rau.

Visitation will be Thursday, 1:00 to 7:00pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and on Friday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Grace Baptist Church in Bison.
