PETER NICKOLAS SCHULZ was born to Peter Paul and Katherine Lena (Welsch) Schulz on May 24, 1950 in Elgin, ND. Pete was the youngest of 2 children.
Pete grew up on the family farm south of Burt, ND. He attended Runkel country school and also attended school in New England, ND. Later Pete earned his GED. He was only 19 years old when his Dad passed away in 1969, leaving all the responsibility of running the farm to Pete and his mother. He and his mother worked the farm until he married and then his mother moved to Mott, ND. Pete spent many years on the farm with his wife and his children, Bridget, Becky, ReNae, and Paul. Later he left the farm and moved to different locations in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota seeking employment. After Pete divorced he lived in and around the Crookston, MN area, residing at Lutheran Social Services Willow at the time of his death.
Pete attended church services weekly and bible studies on a regular basis. The bible and bible studies were very important to him. Pete would spread God's word through bible stories and verses, which he shared with everyone around him. He wanted to share his Christian beliefs and his love for Jesus.
He loved making people laugh and always had witty comments to add to his conversations. Pete appreciated a large variety of music and movies, but was drawn to Classic Rock and Westerns, especially Bonanza and Gun Smoke. Pete loved having his friends over and hosting sporting events. The Super Bowl and the World Series were big events shared with his friends. His favorite sporting event to watch weekly was WWE (Professional Wrestling).
Pete and his sister, Garnetta were very close. He knew he could count on her for anything. He often said, "I would have been nowhere without my mother and my sister. They were my blessings in life." He talked to Garnetta many times a day and looked forward to their time spent together.
Pete loved his cat, Tommy Boy. They were always together and it was clear they brought each other happiness. Pete would commonly call others to his room to show them the cute things Tommy was doing and would always ask them to take a picture. While Pete was watching TV, Tommy would sit on his lap and fall asleep. He would be so peaceful that Pete worried about waking him up when he wanted to get up or move a little. Many times he put Tommy's comfort before his own. At night, it was important to Pete that Tommy was with him. He never would go to sleep without Tommy in his room. These two were the best of companions.
Pete enjoyed going on bike rides with his friends, Brad, Chris, and Jeff. He looked forward to every fishing trip with his friend, Mark. Pete often reminisced about the good times he had with Gary and Bennie. They called themselves "The Three Amigos" and would bring lots of comedy to everyone around them.
He was very generous and shared with everyone. He looked for the little things that would make a difference and was full of gratitude for the people who supported him. Pete's last generous act to help other people in need was giving the gift of life through organ donation. Pete will be a blessing to someone else's family and will live on through his recipients. He will be missed by so many. May God bless the memory of Pete Nickolas Schulz.
Pete is survived by his four children, Bridget (Todd) Volesky of Dickinson, ND; Becky Schulz of Luverne, MN; ReNae (Dan) Ulmer of Dickinson, ND; and Paul (Becky) Schulz of Lennox, SD; his eight grandchildren, Chevy, Chassey, Rodney, Nicole, Cailey, Cody, Allison, and Charolette; his sister, Garnetta Wanner of Minot, ND; close friends,Mark Williams, Chris Kvamme, Brad Jenkins, Timothy Newhouse, Harry Nohre, Winston Johnson, Marlan Halstad, Jeffery Redden, and Maurice Duden; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends.
