Peter Ernest Hauge was born on October 9 , 1940, in Elgin, ND to Harold M. and Esther D. (Rustad) Hauge. He grew up on the Hauge family farm 15 miles south of Leith. Pete attended Wheeler Grade School near the farm and graduated from Leith High School in 1958. He attended the North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo and then returned to the family farm.
Pete farmed and ranched there for many years. After his retirement, he continued to live on the farm. When his health began to fail, he moved into Carson. He was transferred from Sanford Hospital in Bismarck to Prospera on Sunset Drive in Mandan where he spent 1 ½ days until passing away on Thursday, November 25, 2021.
Pete was a very kind, compassionate man who would do anything for his neighbors and friends. He was very generous and would help anyone out in their time of need. If you had a hard time finding him, he was probably in his shop listening to the radio and doing word search books. He never wrote the answers in the book so he could give them to someone else to enjoy. Pete loved being around campfires, fishing and hunting. He drew a lifetime tag and bagged a trophy elk which is hanging in the Carson bar. He loved reading, especially Louie L'Amour and National Geographic magazines, and loved attending auction sales. Social hours were spent in the shop enjoying a nice cold Grain Belt. He treasured his friends and love playing pranks on them.
Pete was a member of the Grant County Fire Department for many years, was on a bowling and dart league, and loved playing old-timers pool.
Surviving family members include two sisters, Melva Hauge, Mandan, ND; Phyllis (John) Pake, Mandan ND; nephews and nieces, Kevin Miller, Todd (Carmel) Miller, Andra Miller, Donavon (Sheila) Pake, Darin (Palinee) Pake, Deanne Pake, and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous good friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 3 , from 9:30 to 10:30 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Carson.
Cards can be mailed to Phyllis Pake, 1722 4 th St NE, Mandan, ND 58554.
