Obituary

Funeral services for Peggy McClung, 77, of Bison, SD will be Monday, January 15. 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Bison, SD. CLP Florence Hoff will officiate and burial will follow at the Gallaway Cemetery near Meadow, SD.

Peggy Jean Mills was born March 9, 1929, to Ivan L. and Helen E. Mills, at her grandfather's home in Greensburg, KS. When she was one month old, the family moved to Morton County, KS, and resided for a while in a claim shack, where Peggy remembered eating cracklin's with their hounds. She said, "They liked them and so did I. I guess it was supposed to help their wind when they chased coyotes." A sister Betty joined the family in August of 1930.

When Peggy was four years old, the family moved to Richfield, KS, so she could go to school. She attended all twelve years of school in Richfield, graduating in 1946, which was the last year they had school there. Peggy received a scholarship to go to college, but she chose not to go. She later said, "That was probably a big mistake at the time, but I couldn't see it."

Peggy worked in abstract offices in Richfield and Elkhart, KS, and in Lakewood, CO; at the munitions plant in Parsons, KS; at Channel 6 TV Station in Ensign, KS; as school secretary at Lemmon High School; at NWAS; and as a secretary at Veal Trucking.

Peggy's hobbies included painting, crocheting, making porcelain dolls, and latest of which and probably her greatest passion, quilting, the product of which was enjoyed by her entire family.

Peggy McClung passed away at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND on January 14, 2007, with her family at her side.

Her parents, one son, Randy Jay Swartz, and one nephew, Danny Ivan Wilson, preceded Peggy in death.
