PEGGY LOUISE CLARK finally joined her husband Charlie in Heaven on Monday, June 3, 2024 at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.
Peggy was born in 1935 in Lemmon to Sherrell and Alta (Moore) Cazer. Her father ran the store at Coal Springs where she spent her early childhood. After the store burnt down, the family moved to Lemmon. Peggy was the youngest of seven children and she worked as a telephone operator in Lemmon for a time.
On June 1, 1954, Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Charles Clark at Spencer Memorial Church in Lemmon. They lived their first few years on the homestead south of Keldron and then purchased their own ranch from Tom Lyman along the Grand River where they proudly raised cattle and a family. For over 20 years, she and Charlie raised Registered Gelbvieh Cattle and had the first Registered Gelbvieh Production Bull Sale in the state. During this time, she was active in the Gelbvieh Gals at both the State and National level supporting the ranch and helping promote the Gelbvieh breed.
Peggy was active in her community playing whist monthly at the Glad Valley Community Hall, going to Country Stompers in Morristown with Charlie, the United Presbyterian Women, L7 Cowbells, and the Red Hat Ladies in her later years.
To make ends meet on the ranch, she worked in town off and on including work at Wheeler Manufacturing and she also ran the sale barn cafe in Lemmon during the years that Charlie was a partner in Lemmon Livestock. Together they also managed a hotel in Custer in 1999.
She is preceded in death by Charles, her husband of 59 years, her parents and all six siblings. She is survived by her children Scot and Kathleen, Sacramento, CA; Clint and Narcel, Morristown, SD; Amy of Belle Fourche, SD; her grandchildren, Amber (Omar), Taos, NM; Avery (Felice) and Ashely, Sacramento, CA; Courtney (Chance), Bismarck, ND; Garrett (Megan), Keldron, SD; and Paige (Jaren), Prairie City, SD; 13 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Granddaughter.
Per Peggy's wishes, her ashes will be scattered on the family ranch along the Grand River at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
