Paul Meier was born April 2, 1932 in Adams County, ND north of Lemmon, SD to Thomas and Beata (Fitterer) Meier. When he was a young teenager they moved to what is now the family farm, 6 miles North of Lemmon. Paul attended St John's Prep School in Collegeville, MN until he graduated in 1950. He returned to the farm to work beside his father.  After several years, Paul purchased the farm from his parents.

On January 31, 1959 Paul married Ellguvene Maychrzak in Scranton, ND. They made their home on the farm north of Lemmon and were blessed by five children; Hugh, Kevin, Steven, Sari and Wendy.

In addition to farming and ranching, Paul had a jack repair business for about 10 years and worked for the Farm Service Agency measuring grain bins in the early 80's. He also reported precipitation for the National Weather Service for over 40 years.

Paul enjoyed sports and played basketball and volleyball in high school. When he returned to Lemmon he participated in basketball, baseball, volleyball, and bowling. When he wasn't farming or tinkering around in his machine shop, he would typically be found in his recliner, watching as a loyal fan the MN Twins, Vikings and NASCAR races. He loved to fish, specifically walleyes, and when his sons or sons in laws joined him on the boat it was a great day! He created fun for all with three wheeler or Jeep rides out in the pasture making sure his grandkids were bouncing and giggling by his side. Paul loved music and learned to play the accordion by ear at a young age and continued to play until a few days before he passed! His audience grew from his family at home to his new home at Touchmark in Bismarck, where the staff and residents requested him to play.

Paul is survived by his two sons, Hugh (Joyce) Meier, Morrill, NE and Steven (Alice) Meier, Bismarck, ND; two daughters, Sari (Rich) Merriman, Aberdeen, SD and Wendy Crow, Burnsville, MN; seven grandchildren, Thomas (Jess) Meier, Bismarck, ND, Nicole (Brad) Schantz, Chanhassen, MN, Roxanne Merriman,  St. Paul, MN, Taylor (Brad) Tarras, Eau Claire, WI, Colton Crow, Chanhassen, MN, Curtis Wentz, Keystone, SD and Travis (Leslie) Wentz Ogden, UT; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; two sisters, Anna Roll, Dickinson, ND and Genevieve (Charles) Schwahn, Denver, CO; brother-in-law Harry Schaff, Bismarck, ND; and sisters-in-laws, Florene Meier, Sioux Falls, SD and Mat Meier, Monroe, WA.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ellguvene; one son, Kevin Meier; five brothers, Joe, Pete, Tom, Kasper, and Jake; two sisters Barbara and Vyola; and one great granddaughter Abbigale Wentz.
