Otto Koepplin passed away peacefully at his home on January 4, 2023. He was diagnosed with cancer in February 2022. Otto was born and raised on his Grandfather's homestead 1 ¼ E of Elgin, the son of Ludwig and Maria (Nicklaus) Koepplin.
He was united in marriage to Marleen Hummel on January 12, 1963. To this union they had two sons William (Butch) Linda of Elgin and Wade of Elgin and one Special Grandson Dillon Cole. He hauled many loads of cattle to Farmers Livestock and Kist throughout the years. He loved watching the cattle sell and visiting with his friends at the sale. Otto also worked at the Hettinger Livestock for a time.
Father loved his black angus cows and dancing the waltz with Mother and enjoyed his trips to the casinos where he was often lucky he always made sure he brought a $20 bill home for Dillon. He was always carrying his little book with the cow numbers. He also loved going to check all the pastures. He would walk around and look at the cows and the pastures for hours. Otto loved to mow ditches and help the boys with whatever he could. His most famous saying to us was "Is there anything I can do for you let me know"
He enjoyed playing cards and telling stories of the old days.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Marleen Koepplin; two sons, William "Butch" (Linda) Koepplin and Wade Koepplin; his special grandson, Dillon Cole; sisters, Freda Yoder, Florence Fischer, Loretta Sprecher, Leona Nicklaus and Eleanor and Ervin Bentz; brothers, Edwin and Ruby and George and Florence along with numerous nieces and nephews.
