Mass of Christian Burial for Otillia Mary ""Tillie"" Schaaf, 93, of Hettinger, ND will be Friday, December 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Fr. Stephen Folorunso will officaite with a time of fellowship and lunch to immediately follow the mass. Private Burial will be at the Bowman Cemetery next to her husband, Valentine Schaaf.

Rosary'Vigil will be on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Otillia ""Tillie"" Mary Hecker was born May 18, 1920 to Leonard and Ida (Loren) Hecker in Minnesota. She married Valentine Schaaf, Jr. in 1940 and to this union, 10 children were born. They lived and made their home in Talbot Township on a farm, where they made many memories with their children.

In 1964 they moved to Bowman, ND, in 1969 to Springfield, OR, then to Bremerton, WA in 1985. After Val passed away in 1999, Tillie moved to Hettinger to be near her three eldest children. Tillie was a woman of many talents. She played the accordion and guitar and played with ""The Hecker Family Band"" in the 1930's. She and Val would play at the local bars to entertain on Saturday nights. Tillie even made a CD in 2006 with her playing with the TIbor Brothers.

Tillie sewed beautiful clothes for her daughters. She was a hard worker on the farm and made sure the chores were done. She was a great cook and cooked in restaurants, but always made sure her family came first. Tillie loved to go fishing and most every Sunday in the summer was spent fishing at the Grand River, now the Bowman Haley Dam. She made quilts for her children and grandchildren, would always lend an ear to her grandchildren and was such an understanding Grandma. Her favorite past-times were playing bingo and going to casinos and she was pretty darn lucky!

Tillie went to be with the Lord on November 29, 2013 at the Western Horizons Care Center in Hettinger, ND.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Norbert) Franckowiak, Hettinger, ND, son, Bernie (Vi) Schaaf, Lakebay, WA, son, Leon Schaaf, Veneta, OR, daughter, Linda (Martin) Franckowiak, Elmira, MI, son, Tim (Kathy) Schaaf, Suquamish, WA, son, Neil (Mavis) Schaaf, Springfield, OR, son, Ron Schaaf, Florence, OR, her sister, Anna Marie Kromarek, of Belt, MT, 26 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She also survived by daughters-in-law, Patty Jo Schaaf and Ella Schaaf. Tillie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Val, her sons, David and Ben and her daughter, Valorie.

The Schaaf family would like to thank the Staff at the Western Horizons Care Center in Hettinger for the loving care they gave their mother.
