Orlene H. Meyer, age 88 of Elgin, passed away on Sunday evening, June 7, 2009 at the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin.


A Graveside Family Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. CDT Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan with Pastor Paul Baker, officiating.


A memorial has been established.


A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. MDT on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin.


ORLENE H. VILHAUER was born January 23, 2921 at Heil, ND to Adam T. and Lea (Moos) Vilhauer. She attended elementary school in Heil and graduated from Carson High School. She opened a beauty shop in Mott which she operated for one year. Orlene was united in marriage to A.F. Meyer on October 5, 1941. She moved her beauty shop from Mott to Elgin. Orlene helped her husband operate the Meyer Funeral Home in Elgin until selling the business in the late 1970's.


Orlene and Arnold moved to Bismarck where they operated the Second Time Around from 1980 to 1986, after which they retired and moved back to Elgin. Arnold passed away on March 12, 1995. She continued to live in her home until entering Dakota Hills in 2007.


She enjoyed reading, painting, and watching birds. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Surviving family members include her 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Gary Meyer and Mary Roth, Lee and Connie Meyer, all of Elgin, ND; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and John McDougall, Rochester, MN; Wendy and Marvin Frieze, Mott, ND; 10 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Nelda Vilhauer, Bismarck, ND.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold, one son, Russell, and 3 brothers, Harvey, Victor, and Dale Vilhauer.
