Norma Miller, daughter of Lorenzo and Katherine (Hummel) Miller, was born on May 8, 1922 on the family farm south of Watauga, SD. She attended school for a short time at Prairie View School near Watauga. Norma moved with her family to McIntosh, SD at a young age where she went on to graduate from McIntosh High School with the class of 1941.

At this time she began her working career. Norma was employed with the Corson County Superintendent of Schools and the Selective Service in Corson County. In 1942, she moved to Washington D.C. where she worked in Civil Service and later returned home in 1943.

On January 1, 1945, Norma entered the Women's Army Corps. She took basic training at Ft. Des Moines, IA and was later stationed in South Post Ft. Meyer, Virginia and worked at The Pentagon. Norma went on to receive The Army Commendation Medal and received her honorable discharge in September of 1946.

Norma was united in marriage to Orton Jameson on April 22, 1949 in McLaughlin, SD. To this union two children, Corinne and Joel were born. The family lived in McIntosh and on a ranch in Sioux County, ND. Over the years, Norma was employed at the McIntosh Drugstore, McIntosh Equity Elevator, and the Farmers Homes Administration. She also worked for the Corson County States Attorney, the Corson County Treasurer, and eventually returned to work with the Selective Service, serving as the board's secretary. Norma also owned and operated a fabric shop in McIntosh for several years.

After selling the ranch in 1977, Orton and Norma moved to rural Morristown, SD for a short time prior to making their home in Aberdeen in the spring of 1978. Norma's beloved husband died on April 11, 1983. She continued to make Aberdeen her home until moving to Bismarck in 2005. In 2008, Norma became a resident of the North Dakota Veteran Home in Lisbon, ND where she remained until the time of her death.

Norma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in McIntosh and also in Aberdeen. She served as a Deacon and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as a member of the state Grand Chapter in South Dakota.

Norma was a very patriotic American. She was a member of the Ralph T. Ankerson American Legion Post and Auxiliary in McIntosh and held many offices in both organizations. In 1965, she served simultaneously as the SD State American Legion Historian and the SD State American Legion Auxiliary Junior Activities Chairman. In 1999, Norma was recognized for 55 years of continuous membership in the American Legion. In Aberdeen she was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. In 2009, Norma was privileged to take part in the North Dakota Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to view the World War II Memorial.

Norma enjoyed music of all kinds. She sang solos for weddings, funerals and other occasions for most of her life. Norma also enjoyed reading, sewing, having a rose garden, doing crafts and visiting with her friends.
