Nolan
Sexton
Apr 4, 1939 — Apr 5, 2019
Nolan Wade Sexton was born April, 4 th 1939 in Bison, SD to Raymond and May Sexton. Nolan had one younger sister Kathy. While growing up Nolan attended many local schools until his sophomore year when he moved to Washington and lived with his Uncle and Aunt, Bob and Edwyna Rumsey. Nolan graduated high school from Lake Chelan, Washington in 1957. Following graduation Nolan joined the Navy, in which he served 4 ½ years. On December 13 th 1959 Nolan married Delores Jane Foxley, whom he had known since they were kids.
Once Nolan was discharged from the Navy, the couple returned to South Dakota and purchased their ranch south of Bison, where they remained for 57 years. On December 21, 1965 their first and only son Scot was born. The family ran cattle and sheep over the years. They also had a trucking business for about a decade. This often kept Nolan busy on the road, providing another income for the family while Delores and Scot took care of things at the ranch.
Nolan took great pride in their ranch and they worked hard to keep things looking nice whether the projects were small or large. As an outsider when pulling into the Sexton ranch things were in order and everything looked to be in place. As Nolan got older and sold all the livestock except for a small herd of cows, it allowed him to focus on other hobbies. He had an extensive knowledge of firearms and with this participated in lots of gun shows. He was always ready and willing to discuss guns! He took pride in the collection he obtained over the years.
Nolan has five grandchildren Brianna, Paden, Rio, Tava, and Lily who liked spending time at their grandparents' house and getting to listen to grandpa's stories and wise advice. Many gatherings were hosted at the Sexton household and were enjoyed by family and many friends.
Nolan passed away at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD, on Friday, April 5, 2019.
Nolan is survived by his son Scot Sexton, and grandchildren Brianna, Paden, Rio, Tava, and Lily Sexton. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Watt; sisters-in-law Janice Alden and Lenora Ann Marlow; nieces and nephews Brian, Blosmo, D'Lynn VanValkenburgh, Jarrod Blosmo, Jason Blosmo, Jordan Watt, Liv Degerness, Danny Watt, Shelia Smith, David Alden, Trixie Bauer, and Mauri Cowan; and numerous cousins and other extended family.
