Obituary

Funeral services for Nickey Block, age 77, of McIntosh, SD, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in McIntosh, SD. Pastor Tottie Lenerville will officiate with burial to follow in the McIntosh City Cemetery.

Nickey LeRoy Block was born in McIntosh, SD, on November 19, 1939, to Ernest and Francis (Vetter) Block. He was raised on the family farm five miles south of McIntosh. He attended grade school and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1957.

On July 14, 1960, he was married to the love of his life, Della Will. To this union three sons were born: Stacy, Shannon and Waylen. Nickey was a construction worker and a farmer, and could fix almost anything. He loved music and for most of his life was an accordion player. He was also an excellent gardener and loved to plant trees and anything that would grow. Nickey was an avid reader and enjoyed books and newspapers.

While Nickey was a father to his three sons, he was also their best friend. They spoke daily on the phone and would talk about all aspects of life. Nickey received his name, Papa Kiki, from Matthew because he could not pronounce Grandpa Nickey. Grandpa Kiki stuck with all the grandkids and became his nickname. He was always there to show love and understanding to his family and will be greatly missed.

Nickey passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at his home in McIntosh, SD with his loving wife and three sons by his side.

He is survived by his wife, Della Block, McIntosh, SD; three sons, Stacy (Deb) Block, Newcastle, WY, Shannon Block and Waylen Block, both of Rapid City, SD; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Patsy Mollman, Inez Locken and Georgia (Dick) Makens, all in Oregon and Peggy Koch, Port St. Lucie, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jerry "Buddy", Ernest "Smokey" and Jackson Block; one sister, Bessie Bell; one daughter-in-law, Debbie Hillius Block; and brothers-in-law, Bob Locken and Wayne Mollman.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday morning.
