Gravning
Nov 3, 1942 — Feb 18, 2020
rural Hettinger
Service of Remembrance for Myrna Faye Gravning, 77, of Bismarck, ND, formerly of rural Hettinger, ND will be Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Centennial Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Homes in Hettinger, ND. Rev. Allen Wickstrom will officiate and burial of her ashes will follow at the Richland Cemetery, north of Hettinger. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a gathering of family and friends at 7:00 p.m. all at the Centennial Chapel on Friday, February 21, 2020.
Myrna Faye Gravning was born on November 3, 1942 to Earl and Virginia (Olson) Meisner. She was the oldest of three siblings and a born caregiver. She graduated from Hettinger High School in 1960. On June 5, 1960, she was married to Terry Gravning in Hettinger, ND. They made their home on a farm north of Hettinger where they raised their two beloved sons Greg and Brian.
Myrna and Terry farmed and raised sheep and took pride in their work. Myrna could often be found tending the farm on her four-wheeler or bottle nursing her lambs and goats. Myrna's caring nature was evident in all that she did from her work as a CNA and cook at West River Medical Center and Western Horizons Care Center (both in Hettinger) to her devotion to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Myrna was a notoriously fussy housekeeper who had a particular disdain for others stepping on her newly shaken rugs (her sister learned this the hard way with an incident involving a hurled broom). She was an excellent cook and her family and friends always looked forward to meals she prepared. She made wonderful desserts of all kinds and her grandchildren often came home from trips to the farm a few pounds heavier. Myrna loved shopping and spent many trips to Dickinson and Bismarck browsing for deals (and spoiling her loved ones).
Throughout her life Myrna was a friend to many. Talking to her over a cup of coffee at the kitchen table while looking out the window comforted many of us over the years. Her accepting and welcoming nature made even the most difficult time or subject alright.
Myrna passed away at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND on February 18, 2020 from heart complications with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her sons Greg and Brian, parents and grandparents. Myrna is survived by her husband Terry, sister Chuck (Harry) Tatro (Forsyth, MT), brother Lynn Meisner (Milliken, CO), brother-in-law Carmen (Shirley) Gravning (Grand Forks, ND), daughter-in-law Libby Gravning (Hettinger, ND), grandchildren Gabriel (Stephanie) Gravning (Mandan, ND), Amanda Gravning (Mandan, ND), Paige (Brandon) Byler (Fredonia, PA), Kaycee (Nathan Schmidt) Schwind (Mandan, ND), great grandchildren Abram, Madalynn, Abigail, Charleigh and Micah and several nieces and nephews.
"Say not in grief she is no more, but in thankfulness that she was." – Hebrew Proverb.
Myrna, your legacy of love and devotion will live on in all of us who were blessed with your presence. We are so grateful to have had you as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
